This isn’t related to this particular episode, but is engineering related. I live in a part of Australia that has experienced an earthquake. Unusual for this part of the world, but it caused me to remember an entirely unrelated piece of safety advice my father once told me. My family come from Northern Ireland. To escape the troubles in the early 70s, we moved to South Africa. This was a mistake, because my parents were socialists. They made an actual living Irish joke (Where does a Northern Irish socialist move to escape the troubles? …). Interesting times involving the South African Communist Party ensued, but that is not the point here. Johannesburg is prone to earth tremors. At the time, I remember being told they were due to collapsing old mine works. Not so sure about that. The first time my father experienced one he climbed under the table, much to the consternation of his work colleagues. None of them had lived in Northern Ireland. Why would you climb under the table if you found yourself in a 1970s sectarian bombing? It’s to do with explosion physics. The shock wave from an explosion travels through the ground much faster than through the air. If you feel the explosion through your feet, you might have a few seconds to do something before the air-borne shockwave hits. Table tops are generally lower than windows, so if you can get under a table, you significantly reduce the chances of getting injured by flying glass. Lessons from a civil war zone, folks.

Thanks so much for posting a link to the liveshow. Deciding to watch it immediately was easily a better use of my afternoon than studying for an exam in 3 days. Awesome work and worth the wait! 😀👍 If and when the world opens back up, how about making a trip to Australia and doing some live shows down here? You'd better believe that a nation running on a beer economy has had a few engineering failures to dissect. On another note, what is Alice's Soviet sound drop from? I feel dumb for asking but despite all efforts I can't find it. It's going to be my new ringtone 😁

like it's weird, it's clearly downsampled, and then periodically skips to catch up with realtime. so, if that effect is present in the local capture too, that's irreveresible loss. but if the downsample rate and the frequency of the jumps is consistent, it wouldn't be hard to write a script to speed it up, and pretty trivially detect the jumps, and loop a bit of the audio to fill in the gap. if the looping is done with a bit of gentle crossfading it would still sound weird but definitely better
