Dimitri
im 28, i grew up listening to rock music never knowing the bands names or that there were different subcategories. shaken to my core that 90% of the rock music was but(t)rock so s/o to the naddpod crew (mostly murph tho) for helping unearth my childhood music. its been haunting me not knowing what the hell i was listening to 😂
Lauren
Is Buttrock similar to Divorced Dad Rock?
Samantha Sullivan
So glad no one already mentioned this in the butt rock comments. In the nickelback song “Rockstar” in the background of one of the verses they say “I’ll have the quesadilla,” which is truly wild lyric to have. Butt rock indeed.
Kjersa
More buttrock talk please
Galen Graham, Local Talent
this is so late, but ExtraHistory on youtube is doing a series on the history of the modern domestic cat! cats remain almost anatomically identical to the cats of 4500 years ago!
Kitty Stryker
I used to play The Hustle at the local dive bar all the time and everyone ended up learning it. I’m sober now and more responsible 😂
Daniel Bronsdon
I think it would be perfect if at the end of the campaign Zudric took off his helmet and the other two immediately betrayed him and attacked
Angelo
I always referred to bands like Lifehouse as wuss-rock when I was younger.
David Pendragon
I worked as a wedding videographer some years ago and can confirm that the electric slide, the hustle, the chicken dance, the cha cha slide, and more of your favorite ridiculous songs that refuse to die are alive and well at weddings all across the country. They are staples as much as "here comes the bride" or Pachabel's Cannon in D are.
Zyrian
Crush 40 defines Buttrock I love it
Zyrian
Anything by Crush 40 (they did the music to Sonic Adventure) is primo Buttrock
Kathryn Martin
The song that I classify as butt rock is “No Matter What” from Yu-Gi-Oh!
Max Herzog
We still love you tho
hannah says
I am a professional nanny and my kiddos always LOVE the macarena. I use it in lieu of head shoulders knees and toes because I have free will. That said a three year old I formerly worked with would shout “HEY MARACA RAINBOW” because to her wtf is macarena? nah dawg, that’s the maraca rainbow.
hannah says
Emily saying she picks monsters because they’re “cute as hell” is the most on brand statement I’ve ever heard in my life
Andrew Burgess
Last summer I saw Creed, 3 doors down, and finger eleven and seeing 40 thousand people get amped for butt rock together gave me a high im still riding
Jonathan Gagnon
Y’all my wife and I (28 and 26) strictly BLAST butt rock whenever we clean the house. Also was at the Denver live show which featured all of the Lifehouse and we still reference it to this day, You and Me was even in our wedding because of it lmao
Joshua Qualls
Counterpoint: Click Click Boom is fucking hilarious.
Rainemaker
I never knew what butt rock was. I always just assumed it was like crush 40 or something.
CommodoreBlue
Just encountered a Hook Horror in Baldur’s Gate 3 and was able to immediately identify it, thanks to this episode’s thumbnail.

The haters are FEASTING
A Really Cool Rock
Y'all gonna flip when you learn about The Nutbush! - the classic Australian dance. We all learn it in elementary school, before the age of 10, and its been that way for generations! Its absolutely ridiculous & great
Andrew Hurst
Okay, but there's an important question... Do you clap when you do the macarena? On the jump?
Kolbier
Line dancer here, the electric slide is still alive and well, but we usually do it to other songs!
crispy wonton
Butt rock all day every day
Bulbarat
Coincidentally I am at a planet fitness on a Tuesday when that guy said he goes to planet fitness on Tuesdays 😂
Canis Corax
Butt rock > the macarena > sonnets, you hears it here first, folks. For real though I will always jam to butt rock
TwoPuppetsTTV
What a coincidence I actually co-wrote the electric slide
rosebunting
I cannot help but picture Zudrick as one of my friends from college. Dude is a super accomplished birder, incredibly skilled, but is also pretty lanky and blonde, and picturing him trying to be edgy makes me laugh so hard 😂
Pali Endi
Is Welly going to reinvent sonnets? Poetry for a new age!
Nemo_Nihil17
When i was in elementary school, my 3rd grade gym teacher was cool and had us play dodgeball and other violent games. In 4th grade, she retired and was replaced by a guy named Mr. Toole, and he had us dance every gym class. Electric slide, chicken dance, maccarana, everything. It was very controversial. Also my dad, to this day, sings Creed, Godsmack, & Puddle of Mud very loudly while taking baths, so this short rest hit pretty close to home
Logenthar
I love rocking out to butt rock and I love laughing at butt rock
Melissa Shilale
I think about Caldwell saying ‘sweet Ender’s chin’ too much
Melissa Shilale
Someone check on Murph!!!!!!
Melissa Shilale
Butt Rock Bangers on spotify, now you too can die while exercising. I also have macarena’d, electric slid, cupid shuffled and cotton eye joe’d with the best of them.
Sean
This is probably true, yes
Alec Posta
I literally mouthed the phrase "butt rock" to myself seconds before Emily brought it up, lol
Cheese of the Lake
I thought medieval drawings of livestock was purposefully distorted to show their wealth? They would paint their pigs super big to that they were wealthy farmers
Tyler Kraft
Currently working out to this, almost died doing deadlifts cause I’m laughing to Murph almost dying listening to butt rock. Anyways, can’t believe no one else is familiar with One by Creed :(
Lambroux
I swear the only thing that brings me joy the same way Nathan from drawer losing it to a bit, is Emily fucking cackling like when "butt rock" is explained.
Tony Cappellino
I was picturing Zudrick’s elevator shenanigans like Bruce Willis in Die Hard, except much clunkier and with more metal scraping
Tony Cappellino
Looking back, the dougie feels like something from the Tik Tok dance era that showed up way before its time
Eons Abroad
I got on Facebook immediately after Em said "skits on albums didn't age well into the streaming era." The first meme said "I miss when albums had, intros, interludes, and outros." 🤣
Kaley Miller
Thank you! I knew them but didn’t know why either
Max Herzog
My friends have called me at times, a "musical encyclopedia" and I have NEVER heard the term But Rock to describe that genre 🤣 it's PERFECT
Billy Peake
Or anything that could have been in a Dreamcast Sonic game.
Mateusz Leszczyński
as someone who stole most of the plot from baldur's gate 3 before ever playing it i much recommend Jake play bloodborne
Vilaykham Sukhaseum
The way Murph feels about But Rock(?) at the gym is me with Naddpod. The numbers of time I'm midway between reps and I've have to hold it in because someone said something hilarious like Murph with Sir Brinesplooge or when Jake went porque at a funeral in JNCOs happens way too often. I mean, jokes on me for catching up at the gym.
Hannah
elder gen z here, we did Macarena and chicken dance a lot, I definitely did the electric slide but I know some people who didn’t, but the big ones were Cupid shuffle and cha cha slide, the dougie was popular for a minute but didn’t have the same longevity
Max Herzog
Haters are feasting tonight
Max Herzog
Sean you grew up under a rock 🤷🏼
Max Herzog
The cupid shuffle is the new one, but all the songs are still done
Brandon Wiens
Now, I KNOW we all know that the song Murph was ACTUALLY thinking of was “Control” by Puddle of Mudd. Smack my ass about it.
Brandon Wiens
I dunno where you grew up in the 90’s but we ABSOLUTELY DID “The Hustle”.
Sean
I am 24 and I have no clue what the electric slide is so I can say with confidence "the kids" definitely are not doing it Edit: upon googling the song I can say with confidence that my only exposure to it is, I shit you not, the "You're my dad! boogie woogie woogie" vine
Vinnie Vidi Vici
No Electric Slide. But Macarena, Cotton-Eyed Joe, Cha-Cha Slide are still big.
cyber sleuth
Still wish we could hear the villain speech Jake had prepared before wellie just axed at him
just a little bawn
As a spry and youthful yankle (ankle is my preferred uncle/aunt honorific) I don't think the kids these days really do the electric slide. 😔 I try to keep the tradition alive and always request it at weddings (though I've not been to many since I'm simply too youthful)
Jenna H
glad to hear that this is going strong from when i was in jr high in 2004. also 2 of the songs I had to learn.
Jenna H
I mostly listen to PUP when I work out and have control of my playlist. My gym is mostly like 70s & 80s dad rock. Also very funny to get shredded to like Boston's More than a Feeling
A. Lee. S
Stayed at a hotel once where the elevator had a sign that said “please don’t jump” and at every floor, the doors would open too early and it would sort of stop two feet too high before slowly going the rest of the way to the floor. We didn’t stay. 🫣
Im a BladeSinging Wizard but only cut Beef&Pork
Jake should DM the Tomb of Horrors(Terrors) maybe I love the Accidental Blood Borne Boar 🐗 which in turn remids me of the Boat From the fairy tale the Sing Bone ( later version replace the Giant Boat with a dragon)
Katherine
My fundamentalist Christian mom was taking care of the baby while my husband and I did some chores, when "Jesus gave birth to raptors" came up, my mom (in baby voice) said "Lukas (the baby), are they blaspheming against Jesus?!"
A. Lee. S
I can’t remember which game you are all playing right now but “Split Fiction” is great. It’s two player and my gamer husband and I (not a gamer at all - so bad at jumping) are loving it!
Jedidiah Archer Smith
I LOVE THE WAYYOUSMYACKMYEEYASSS
David Moore
they are in a segment of the underdark in bg3 im pretty sure
Rebecca N
I feel like I've seen/heard of Hook Horrors before, but they also really remind me of Gigan tbh
Giovanni Gabriele
Please do a full version of “how to trip a bird” by Murph 🙏
JJ
Tiny L for Murph conflating “Over My Head (Cablecar)” with “How to Save a Life”
Jake bird man
There's two types of traditional sonnets: English sonnet and Italian sonnet (aka: Shakespearean sonnet and Petrarchan sonnet). Both are traditionally written in iambic pentameter, which is five two syllable beats with the stress on the second beat (to BE or NOT to BE). Both types of sonnets also have 14 lines, with the variation between the two being the stanza structure. English has 3 four line stanzas (quatrains) and one two line stanza (couplet), Italian has two stanzas, the first being 8 lines (octet) and the second being 6 lines (sestet). They follow different rhyme schemes but modern sonnets frequently ignore the meter (iambic pentameter stuff) and rhyme structure. Look up contemporary sonnets if you're curious, most only follow the 14 lines rule, and some not even that.
Samuel Gray
I thought butt rock was sonic the hedgehog music. Like overly sincere. What a 13 yr old would think is high art
Tim Sauerland
Alright, William Shits and (Grandpa) Crunch’ems confirmed 👍🏻
sage penelopy
“when jesus gave birth to the dinosaurs, he meant them to be his army to fight against pontius pilate.” - the word of the lord, amen caldwell, i love you and your deep evangelical references 😂
Aiyana
I'm a substitute teacher, the kids do still do the macarena, but I don't think they know the electric slide (tbh I forgot about it) and they Definitely don't know the hustle. the only reason I know it is because my parents are black and in their 60s even though I'm 23 lol
margot d
I agree but want to clarify that that sounds a bit like we’re replacing the YMCA which isn’t the case, Hot To Go is just a new addition
Jacob Koselke
Turn 30 this year, never seen the hustle nor the electric slide. Every wedding, party, event has had the Cupid Shuffle and the Cha Cha Slide though
Alec Simkiss
RALLY ROUND THE FAMILY WITH AN ARMOR FULL OF BIRDS
Alec Simkiss
I absolutely get shredded to Salvia. All of Back Into Your System absolutely goes hard but especially Always, Click Click Boom, and Weight of the World
A.J.
as a gen z i can say: we are still doing the macarena but we have a new YMCA and it's chappell roan's hot to go. also i haven't done the electric slide since gym class in 8th grade
Lila Goldenberg
the buttrock talk was funny as shit. soooo off the rails
Lila Goldenberg
caldwell’s pitch about putting skits into the podcast, y’all already do that on the normal feed, it’s called your ad reads!!
Mike
From the gang refusing to sit down, to the bird refusing to sit down. Pure hilarity
Jay
Murph made me listen to creed for the first time in 20 years
Graham
Murph would hate playing commander with Pantlaza, Sun-Favored… too many feathers
Cody Zimmer
Okay, but I totally started whistling the hustle too, so I get where you are coming from Caldwell.
DazWaz
Is Welly the other character you proposed in C3 ep 0?
Grace Bee
Caldwell continues to be great at names
Tanner Bennett
I set a deadlift PR of 605# listening to “One Last Breath” by Creed like a month ago. “Higher” is another great PR song
Biola
The electric slide is still going strong in the Black community. I just did it at a baby shower last weekend lol.

Haha I meant to say “Sephirothic Tree” (like the Kabbalistic Tree of Life) but I misspoke. ~Caldwell
Noah Sun
When I was in middle school we had a dance course in gym class. The hustle was one of the 4 dances we had to do, along with boot slappin’ leather and the electric slide. This was probably 2015?
Ethan Banman
"We saw you from across the monster manual and we really digged your vibe"
EllCee
I have preteens and teens, and I can confirm that the kids today are definitely still doing the Macarena at every school activity. (They also listen to a fair amount of butt rock, at least my teenage son does 😂)
Photon.Pilot
ButtRock to me is big, generic riffs, lyrics that could be written by a grown man or a 14 year old, always adhering to verse-Chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus-outro.
Lee
I lift while listening to nad pod not butt rock and it is dangerous sometimes when you laugh worth it though only time I have to listen
Rachael Essen
I truly want Zudrick to take his helm off at some point and he’s just the most beautiful man ever for no reason lol
Shane C
Creed is Divorced Dad Rock
Pali Endi
Did Caldwell say we need a Sofartic Tree of Butt Rock?
Noah the Bullywug Boy #HonortheCock
Creed gets me through long hot days in the kitchen at work!!! #sixfeetfromtheedge
Jaydon
brightsword spoiler so sad i started reading it
Joshua Fletcher
I finally became the person yelling into the void during the show. Lifehouse is pop rock, nowhere near butt rock. A good rule of thumb for butt rock is if you can close youre eyes and picture the band in affliction tees and leather bracers, that’s butt rock.
Goodnight Burrito
I teach middle school (age 11-13 ish) and their school dances are mostly standing in the dark gym, and jumping in a circle with the occasional, brief TikTok dance.
Tyler Goevert
I know, I’ve become really endeared to this trio and the world and would love to see this campaign expand.
Tyler Goevert
I know the crew has referenced The Bright Sword a ton through Skaldova (which made me grab it from the library), but it also feels so much like the world of the First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie and got me wondering if Jake had read those as well.
Will Putman
"What's up alpha predators today were talking about dinosaurs and how they are the opposite of woke 😎"
aRagde
Have they discussed if skaldova will continue past this one quest? I hope they do some more
katie potato
The electric slide has indeed died, i apologise
Ryan Higgins
The settlers of Nadd Pod on Dungeons and Daddies
The Grinch (feral)
“Jesus was a lil raptor” and then “that’s why they call it ‘the rapture’” fucking took me out
Declan Konesky
I do love to work or work out to limp Bizkit. Probably the very definition of butt rock in some sense. Definitely not as vanilla as your average but rock like 3 days grace or something though
Andrew Jennings
Click click boom is a pretty funny lyric if you think about it
Janelle Hutson
My teen sister listens to mostly but rock its alive and well
Kelley
The sonnet hate 😭
Nav Dhillon
Blown away by how great the voice acting has been by Jake
Mike Yost
The sheer volume of times I just heard the phrase “butt rock adjacent“
Ian Mcilwean
I watched a ton of scrubs as a kid and that song is an eternal ear worm for me

“It’s just birds, dude” might legitimately be the most descriptive tagline for NADDPOD

a) The Electric Slide was allegedly written about a vibrator, but apparently there's conflicting reports about whether that's true or not b) my local alt-rock station is DC 101, and they were VERY into that Creed song back in the day
Janaya Brown
I'm glad someone finally said it
Janaya Brown
Today I learned that my 4th/5th favorite genre of music is called butt rock
Jeffrey Steck, Lord of the Fjord
Since I’m old, haven’t done either in a long minute. Think I may still remember how to do the Macarena tho. Did some country line dances in my 90’s country phase. I want to know if “Ride the Train” is still done.
Ron A.
I knew butt rock would come up on naddpod eventually
Aster Ellis
One time I sang "She Hates Me" by Puddle of Mudd at a talent show hosted in my college dorm by housing admin. No one knew why they created it and no one wanted to sign up, so I decided to at least make it interesting. Eventually it just turned into a troll-ish karaoke night, with classics such as "EARFQUAKE" (where Playboi Carti just says "imonbadewo" like ten times) and "The Distance" by CAKE. 10/10 would recommend wasting collegiate resources again
CommodoreBlue
I was at the Lifehouse live show!! There were shove wizards and 3D-printed AI Bullywogs
Spencer Bloom
Speaking of sonnet structure… A Hundred Thousand Billion Poems by Raymond Queneau is a neat take on the format.
Michael Lawton
Come on!! Moving sidewalks in airports!!! There’s your electric slide…”caution, sidewalk ending.”
Michael Lawton
Holy Jabari the Safari! Shout out to the Hexbloods!!!!
Michael Lawton
Just got out of work, thank Ender’s Trapezius!!!
Rebecca Neal
Science doesn't care about your feelings Murph
Taylor Marshall
the macarena lingers but the cha cha slide is the real banger
Peregrine
I think life is much cooler when you learn about how all animals are related!! Dinosaurs have existed for so long and were very diverse!! Murph, your crow and pigeon friends are dinosaurs (in fact, dinosaurs can be separated into avian and non-avian)!! (I know you were being silly, I’m just a fuckin nerd so I had to say something)
Michael P Mendoza
All in all great sode
Cyan
Butt rock? I’ve always called music like that Divorced Dad Rock. It’s one of my favorite genres.
Ian Holden
Electric slide was replaced by the wobble
Stephen Laster
Murph, "One" is absolutely a BANGER. It's in my workout Playlist.
Zanna
I studied poetry and I struggled so much with understanding sonnets and stress-based structures
Katie Spina
Murph combining Blurry and Control 🤣🤣🤣 I'm dying on my walk listening to this short rest 🤣🤣🤣
Aster Ellis
Came here to say this, TIL that I've never even heard the electric slide before and I'm in my 20s. The cupid shuffle, macarena, and to an extent the cha cha slide have withstood the test of time.
Eli Plaskett
Sonnets began as a way for people to get their horn out and still feel fancy. It was closely tied to Courtly Love, which was supposed to be about flirting with married women whom you did not actually sleep with because the purity of your love forbade adultery. In practice, a lot of ladies who were married to old barons as children ended up fucking some knights because they were teenagers and 20-somethings with no say in their marriage surrounded by handsome athlete-soldiers. So sonnets began as a way to treat your horniness as something beautiful and pure. Until the English Renaissance, when they had become more of a way to out-poet your rivals by showing how clever you were. I like them because good ones are all about a setup in the first eight lines and a twist that gets delivered with a punchy couplet at the end.
Lachy
Bring out the "Rosencrantz & Guildernstern are Dead"-style one shot of the two monks having everything go catastrophically wrong, and then needing to pull their shit together just for the team to burst through the door and absolutely womp them
Zanna
I did maypole in primary school? (2012) some traditions are just evergreen
Nick Lerche
I am shredding to butt rock, and was screaming iambic pentameter at my phone for minutes until Caldwell said it. Also I do still macarena if asked
Alex Cartwright
Buttrock for life
Hugo Wull
Speaking of Butt Rock, I recently learned that Bush actually sings a bunch of songs that I’ve always hated but always assumed were by other terrible bands. Bush’s first two albums are a real Hall of Shame of Butt Rock.
joel
said "nooo it's not indie" with the same intonation as murph at the same time when they were discussing Lifehouse - really dating myself here...
Elizabeth Boskey
I spent graduate school writing endless sonnets in my notebooks because I like structure
BoOoOoooOooo BeeEEEeEeEee
I fucking love everything yall do. You're doing amazing as a DM Jake and everybodys character is great. Im replaying Dark Souls 2 with a Zudrick build
lily h
the cupid shuffle is the thing
lily h
the macarena has lasted a lot longer than the electric slide
Jackie Eckhart
Sonnets are just a type of poem with 14 lines and a specific rhyme scheme
Jay Dragonborn, Guardian of the Vibe, Honoring the Cock
I think the Cupid Shuffle replaced the Electric Slide.
Evan Cordero
Weird that the first Mission Impossible was referenced. I just watched that movie for the first time last week
kin
caldwell saying he forgets to use his fighter abilities feels like a TINY retroactive W for c1 jake
Brandon Wiens
Hook Horror had me looking for a buried dog collar in the Underdark!
Darby Nicole Mishra
I knew it wasn't gonna be a successful parley when they didn't enter through the side flap
Shel B Kennas 1st fav sprite girl! No jokes today, just excited Emily's gonna be on Gastronauts!!
We once played against a Hook Horror but in our DM's east coast accent it sounded like Hook Whore and I can never unhear it

I prayed for this😭
