It never came up, but the "guest murder monk" case sounded like a DM who listened to Murph's past advice on how to take away a magic item that's accidentally too powerful and/or the players are abusing. They got to have a dramatic fight, they only got knocked out instead of killed, and they were explicitly told where they could retrieve their stuff. My bet is that when they got to the king, one specific magic item was missing/broken/confiscated, and everything else got returned

Even if they could take down one person in a round (which I think is, in fact, quite ridiculous), there were four other players. The number of things that would have to have happened in order for the stars to aligned seems highly improbable. And again, you only get advantage on stunned targets, and a hit isn't an auto-crit. No free crits in sight.

I think what Robbie is missing is the breach of trust from the DM with his pet friend and the party. I think it feels weird if you have a surprise guest show up and they are against you. It feels suspicious. It feels like a weird collusion. The DM pet is in effect an “outsider” to the DM party relationship. This doesn’t feel like a totally consensual thing. If the DM had said “Hey what if I have a surprise guest some session. I think they’re gonna play a bad guy. “ and then everyone said, “That sounds good. ” then it would be okay a little.

For the one shot I think it’s completely reasonable to lower the hp and health. They hadn’t played in months and this was a one shot so I’m assuming these are new characters the dm doesn’t know how to balance for. I know that most of what they said what a joke but Murph opened it up saying that if it was the first session it would be fine missing the fact that it was indeed the first session given that it’s a one shot. But even if it wasn’t a one shot and they had been playing for a while, balancing combats is one of the hardest aspects of being a dm at least in my experience. I mainly just feel the need to say all this because in the past (and much more occasionally now) I would have to change the stats of the monsters on the fly

Depending on the party composition, it's probably not too ridiculous for a kinsei monk to be able to take them all out with a little luck. If they only had like, a fighter and the rest of the party were squishies like a rogue, sorcerer, druid, and cleric and none of their ac was that great, if they missed a few times (not unlikely, monk could have 20+ ac with 20 dex, 16 wis, and agile parry from kinsei) and the monk could stun each turn and then just grind their stunned targets down (free crits on every attack) .

I would assert that the DM in the bath bomb girl situation should have acted much sooner. There is precedent in the Court for punishing the DM for failing to manage table decorum and etiquette, and failing to communicate proactively when irritants start to crop up. Fine people of the Crit, the final session bath bomb tardiness incident was a preventable offense. You've got to nip this stuff in the bud as a DM. Was bath bomb girl the actual perpetrator of the offense? Yes. Was it the DM's responsibility to keep the good vibes at the table by managing more proactively at the earlier hints? Also yes. 🎲

I completely disagree with the dog slap ruling. I come from incredibly hardy stock and absolutely would have accidentally slapped a dog via too hard pet when I was a child. Perhaps the dm should have said "You don't know you're own strength and apply too much pressure to fast and the dogs legs buckle a little bit. It looks back at you confused, betrayed, and a little scared."
