the idea of being able to use animal messenger on any creature with a flying speed is soooo funny. Imagine you can talk to animals if they're flying, so if there are no birds around you have to cast fly on a random creature, and THEN you keep having to convince them not to use their new powers to fly away (I know animal messenger isn't speak with animals but the idea tickles me so)

What might strike you as slow in some way is inevitably going to strike the listener as a -- 'Whoa, how did he do that?' (Athletes aren't athletes because they 'hurry up,' you know?) (2) Yes, yes, there's "rEsPoNsIbIlItY," but ... you're telling a story with your friends! And that's super cool. Peace, love, rock and roll, cake, Grinch, etc etc etc.

For a cool low-magic historic fantasy I highly recommend The Lost Queen trilogy by Signe Pike, it’s about the last pagan kingdoms in northern England as early Christianity starts to take hold. There’s a lot of very cool descriptions of subtle magic and working with nature, and it kinda gets into our relationship with ancient history and earlier philosophies/spiritualities. Felt very on-theme and also something I think especially Emily would like potentiallly ?

Regarding the initiative thing - i think the new Alert feat is good for that. You add your proficiency bonus to initiative and you can trade place in initiative with any willing PC as long as you’re both conscious. It’s obviously not as good previous Alert feat, but it’s a background feat, so it makes sense. Plus the surprised condition is different anyway…

If you are playing by "the rules" then that's what they are. Homebrew-wise you can do what you want. But rules as written, if you are playing by 2024 rules, you must use the new version of the subclass if it exists. I only mentioned it at all because they talked about how there weren't many options to choose from with 2024 classes, but the old stuff is technically still allowed. Same with backgrounds. There are guidelines in the book for using 2014 background with 2024 characters. It's pretty neat. At the end of the day, whatever they wanna do is dandy!

The "ring is all rusty now" and she's on a quest to restore its luster and regain favor from the horses to earn her title back. No idea where that comes from, never heard anyone laugh like that. - Inserting some les mots français in the middle. Awesome, so sstoked! Check out Hereward the Wake for boggy robin hood. Also, for me confidence is key for accents . The character isn't doing an accent, that's just how they talk. If you're cast, you have to do something, so it's just got to be something you can do with no self consciousness regardless of accuracy. That's my approach, I'm a full time voice actor, might not be right but it makes sense to me and is a helpful mantra.
