On the Topic of Ducts: there's a middle-grade series of books called Gregor the Overlander, where the portal to this underground world (full of huge bats that people ride a la dragons) is in the laundry room of his apartment building. 10/10.

There is this really great TTRPG called .dungeon that has the "You're playing people playing an MMO" premise! It also has super fun classes, like a wizard that circles passages in a real book to cast spells, a ranger that invokes the abilities of real pets, and a witch that has a number of spells equal to their piercings and tattoos!
