I work at an arena and just to confirm that the basketball court goes over the hockey rink. The ice is up for everything except rodeo events and only gets melted for certain events and off season

As someone who as an adult bought two tone paints from hot topic, I'm happy Murph brought it back to malls

Hey, something I know!! I just graduated with a master's in sports management like 2 weeks ago. Thickness of ice depends on what event you're hosting. Figure skating, for example, takes thicker ice than hockey. There is insulation (like a cover) between the ice and the basketball floor. The ice is (generally) replaced relatively frequently -- like once a quarter or so. The other thing most people don't know is that hockey and figure skating is is painted white!

I went to a Rainforest Cafe with some friends as part of a birthday dinner It was terrifying, every 20 minutes they would interrupt their standard playlist to just blast a screaming gorilla and thunder to flickering lights. The drinks were good though

here with my Too Much Hockey knowledge to say 1) NHL rinks will melt the ice at the end of every season, so it's usually a year old or less (but it's very nasty... they bleed and sweat and spit on that thing). Non-NHL rinks can have way older ice, depending on how often they melt and replace it, and it's probably even grosser once melted. 2) They do put things under the ice! Usually they put down a thin first layer of ice, then decals and paint for the logo and lines, and then additional layers of ice on top.
