I love Math and DND, so I decided to calculate the approximate equivalence of a copper piece in 5e to dollars. I took the prices from the cost of common goods table in the players handbook, namely a lb of Rice, a lb of beef, a gallon of milk, two dozen eggs, and 60 gallons of beer. I compared and averaged prices from all around America including CA, NV, and MI. I compared these prices to their DND value and found their prices per copper. The results were wildy inconsistent, but averaged to $1.62 per copper piece.
