Post "Hearthside Chat Questions!" by "naddpod"

Mikkel Voigt

Will there be a continuation on the hexbooods ?

Eddie V

Might be too late to this, but I'd love to know more about Murphs editing process. I've recently started a podcast myself, and am finding editing takes way too long (like 2 or 3 times as long as most people I've talked to) To avoid boring everyone, what are the main points you hit to turn raw audio into the finished thing? (Murph has said he does 3 passes in the past, what is the focus of each of those passes?) Oh lol I just read "recording today", I'll ask again next time! (and try and be on time next time)

Jack Malizia

I know it’s far too late but the Mario movie voice cast! Talk about it!

Katie P.

The Nowhere King's lullaby was slipped into a Feywild adventure for my PCs and I'm not sorry lol

Brooke

Thoughts on the seven?

Murph what books fo you read for inspiration or fun? I think I remember you saying you read Brandon Sanderson. What of his books are your favorites? Thanks for everything all!!

Who would win Emily vs Siobhan Caldwell vs Zac Murph vs Adam Jake vs Brennan

Alejandro the Golden Dragon

This is such a good idea!!!

Would you rather have sex with your parents once or have to watch your parents have sex every evening for the rest of your life? This is easily the toughest "would you rather" I've ever encountered and nobody i've asked has ever given me straight answer. This question does not do well on first dates. Or ever really. Thanks!

tips for people going through tough times? 🤙

Priyanka Patel

How would Murph describe wrestling to someone who's never watched it before, as a way to get them into it?

Priyanka Patel

Would you ever do more if the 8 bit book club style one off episodes (maybe for mixed bag or something). Do you have any more of those puzzle adventure books left? Because I know they drain the life outta you guys but they're SO entertaining! 😂😅

Thomas Friedlander

There's a GOAT Show episode where Jake and Micah talk about this!

Nancy.Art.Music

Not a question but I just wanted to let you know that I still listen to What Should We Draw and 8-Bit Book Club. ☺️ They're kind of like the podcast version of putting on a familiar Netflix show for me.

Mirjam K

It’s probably too late for this hearthside chat, but would you consider holding album-cover art contests for Emily’s music? i think it could be a fun way to engage the community :)

Sedona

I'd love to hear about how Murph and Emily met and how everyone became friends! Aside from working together, obviously. Love you guys!💞

Winged Thief

Are there any other guests planned for the rest of Eldermourne? 👀

Em and Murph - Will there be additional seasons of Hot Date?! I'm rewatching on Netflix and it's truly amazing.

I know I’m late but my question is about a NADDPOD Allstar Team. Emily, Jake, Caldwell - if they each had to pick only one character they’ve played in any campaign. Murph - can pick any character he’s played or any of the “good” NPC’s from his campaigns. what would the ultimate and best balanced group of 4 be? Makes for some interesting and fun combos! Terragon, Jvellin, Chrissy, Old Cobb? Moonshine, Henry, Dave, Jens? Fia, Corbeau, Beverly, Grimmy? Would love to hear from all four of you what your ultimate combos are!

Emily, do you still hate brownies?

Scotty

Jake, I’ve been listening to some of the older mix bags and I gotta hear an update, are you a grill-ionaire yet???

Hey David, in case this question won’t get picked: there is a fantastic Video on this topic on YouTube. “Running D&D: Engaging your Players” by Matthew Colville. Helped me massively to improve as a DM, maybe it will help you as well.

If you ever (Melora forbid) lost another recording, but this time something major occurred, like PC death, etc., would you record the replacement ep completely fresh like you did recently? Or would it be too difficult to ignore such a huge development so would you try to balance recording the same general plot without it seeming too "rehearsed?"

side note absolutely adorable shout-out-to-the-2-crew heart there Jake, I mean, 10/10 question for the cat lovers of the group, what are common misconceptions about having cats that you wish more people knew? i’ll go first - i wish more people understood how rigidly a cat will stick to their schedule😅 I go to bed at like 7:30 or 8 so that i can be asleep by 8:30/9, and if i am up and walking around the apartment at that time, one of my [three] cats, portland (who is my profile picture) will follow me around the apartment and give me the death glare. as soon as i lay down, she meows and screams until “her spot” on my pillow is open for her to lay down😂 if nothing else, i hope this triggers a chain of fun cat stories

Hey y’all, since you guys travel so often I have a question of travel and being away from home and family. I’m deploying to Iraq in a few months (my first deployment) I’m nervous to leave my wife and my dog home and be away for so long. So my question to you is do you have any tips to make being away from home easier to deal with or even make family less stressed?

Honorable Bailiff Jake (former judge) I'm asking that you approach Justice Axford and ask if she is planning on dropping another album? I've been a constant supporter of Sierra Needle and The official EAxford spotify channel. Just curious if she had any thoughts towards another album. (Also amazing job on the new j&a episodes, my faith in the internet RESTORED)

I have a wrestling question! Murph, are you still following what’s happening in the wrestling world and if so what are thoughts on CM Punk returning with AEW? For me, AEW has brought back my love for wrestling that WWE kinda soured. So if you haven’t heard of them you absolutely should check it out!

Question to Murph: what books have influenced your plots? I could be wrong but I see a lot of Brandon Sanderson in your stories - anything else?

Tell us about your other projects!! Will there be another season of hot date? How about GOAT show/more Jake and Amir videos? And Caldwell, besides Big City Greens, I don’t know what you work on. Please, promote yourselves!! We want more!!

Relatedly, can we get a pony update on everyone and is it possible to have a ponytail and be a city pigeon?

Madeleine D

Caldwell: how does it feel to have the jawline of a young god? Does Sydney show any signs of developing this signature chin?

Victoria Shotts

Mine is I have a fake eye and I threatened to throw it at my students during student teaching 😂😂

Victoria Shotts

I also want to know one strange but true fact about everyone!!

Way back when, Murph got called a city pigeon and I still think about that to this day. What animal do y'all think represents each other best that is in the same vain as a city pigeon? Is Murph still a city pigeon or has he evolved, or possibly devolved, from his city pigeon ways? Some examples could include: a subway rat, a suburban racoon, an attic squirrel, or a downtown dingo.

Victoria Shotts

I LOVE THIS

Jillian M

Question: has Emily done everyone’s birth charts, and are you comfortable sharing them? Thank you so much

Joe S

Jake, now that you and Amir are making new Jake & Amir episodes again, are there any plans to have Bully Murph make an appearance? He's my favorite side character from J&A.

I'm currently in a war of attrition with my roommate's cat over my graphing calculator I use for work. I think I should be able to use it freely whenever I want, and the cat (Goose) thinks she should be able to steal it and chew on the buttons whenever she wants. she seems to have a spidey sense for when i use it even when she's napping on her cat tower next to my desk and will meow at me until i stop touching it. My question is - should I A) take this as a sign to give up and quit my job to do the cat's bidding? B) get a second graphing calculator that i use in secret? C) call a house meeting with just me and the cat to discuss appropriate worktime boundaries ? any advice would be greatly appreciated also, any critter updates?

Mark Mcknight

For Murph: What is the best way to get into Wrestling? I'm a theater kid and a martial arts kid, and for years I've wanted to get into Wrestling because it seems like the best of both worlds in that way. But also, i feel like just jumping in at a random point leaves so much 'lore' out so I've never dared to actually watch some.

Would you guys ever consider running a campaign through a game system other that DnD? It would certainly make the title of the show a bit more literal.

Do you guys believe in ghosts? Have you ever had any paranormal experiences?

Jake is/was a self admitted fuckboy, so what was it about Jill or your own growth that got you to the point of being comfortable committing/getting married? I’m in a long term relationship and am really scared of life-long monogamy i.e. marriage.

For Murph and Emily: do you have any tips for teaching my new rescue kitten to stop sharpening her claws on my couch without confusing or alarming my older cats? (I feel like if I shake a can of pennies or something, the other cats may feel like they too are doing something they shouldn’t?)

Emily and Murph, do all your cats get along? We have two sister cats who love each other and an elder cat who is constantly sick of their shit.

Question for murph : you mention that you read a lot of fantasy and it influences your writing for naddpod. What would you say is your favorite fantasy series outside of “The Witcher”. Ps. Give roach a BAFTA

Kelley40k

Since Murph has already talked about the end of Campaign 2 coming closer. Had Campaign 3 been discussed/any teasers of the setting for Campaign 3?

Parker

What album can you always go back to?

Aaron Thomas

Has Emily gotten to play Final Fantasy 9 yet? If so who is her favorite character?

Hi guys! My question is mainly for Murph but I'd love input from all of you. How do you get a coherent story without railroading? It Seems that every campaign I run, I feel like I railroad to have a story, because if I don't the players do whatever they want. They have different motivations, different goals, and they never seem to work with the story I make. (Or a prewritten one). I'd love your thoughts as I always feel like a terrible DM whenever I add a plot hook or something that wasn't there just to steer them back on course even when they don't seem to want it.

Murph, how do you feel about not playing a designated/permanent DMNPC in Eldermourne? You have also built a huge world in Eldermourne and said that you see this campaign wrapping in 10-20 more episodes, do you see a future campaign that takes part in the capital or a different part of Eldermourne?

Daddy Murphy, did campaign two go the route that you originally thought? If notbehat were some of your other ideas

Follow up question, if y’all were in a band what instruments would you play?

I've got a question for the whole crew. What are your favorite books, and why? New delights or old classics. Fiction or Nonfiction. I'm just interested in what you all enjoy with your eyes (or ears if you like audiobooks).

Julie V Eckert

You all seem to love your job! How close is this to what you imagined you'd be doing growing up? What was your childhood "dream job?" ❤️

Imagine going forward in time and meeting your 67yo self. What do you do?

This question is for Emily — have you ever watched FX’s “What We Do In the Shadows”. When I’m listening to Eldermourne I envision Fia as the vampire Nadja.

As a 8 bit book club fan I’m curious if Emily ever found a brownie she didn’t hate.

emily: how does it feel to be literally the funniest person in the world? ok, sorry, a question for everyone: you've talked a lot about your influences from other media (games, movies, etc.) – what's something that you watched, played, read, or otherwise experienced that was so cool, but absolutely nothing like anything you yourself would want to make/run? this can be in terms of combat mechanics, worldbuilding, narrative arcs, anything really. thanks!

Will Cousineau

Have y'all played in any other TTRPGs, or seen any that you are really interested in exploring at some point? I just recently got into the Chronicles of Darkness system which is basically built for like a horror/thriller/supernatural/mystery vibe in a modern setting which is really cool and am excited to run it for my players. (One of them is already a rival supernatural podcaster of the missing person they're trying to figure out what happened to) Additionally, what podcasts are y'all listening to?

Eh this is kind of DnD related but it's more music IMO. Are you guys gonna release the lyrics to Henry's shanty? I'd like to record a cover of my own

Sorry, sort of D&D adjacent but I’m wondering if Emily would ever do a live stream of her music creation/ composing? I can’t imagine I’m the only one that would love to get a peek behind the keyboard. Fingers crossed 🤞 please don’t hate me just because my name is Tucker

Mateo Miranda

Ok guys I got a D&D question and may it ofc please the beach party. I plan on running a campaign for some bilingual family members, so do y’all have any ideas for maybe a Naddpod style twist on a campaign which would heavily use two languages?

Luke Polito

Hey gang. I'm currently an animator who hunkered down in a corporate gig to get through covid and now I'm trying to get back onto my actual career path but it's been brutal. Just turned 30 and stranded in a state where I don't know anyone and have no real opportunities. Any advice on staying sane and keeping creative while in a profoundly unsupportive situation?

Hey Gang! - If you were in the WWE what would be your entrance music? Also, heel or face?

Question for Emily and Murph. I recently purchased a small farm in rural Minnesota! 10 wonderful acres. This past spring I noticed a stray/feral cat moved into my barn. I was delighted, and soon after moving in she had 3 kittens. This litter has be spayed and neutered and are in homes of their own. Recently momma cat welcomed a litter of 8 kittens. I was happy as she seemed to be doing well with the extra food I was providing her. However, she vanished about 2 weeks after having her latest kittens. We are lucky to have noticed her absence in time to saver her very young litter and our heart is heavy at the thought of what might of happened to her. I know you care for strays and do your best to help them. My question for you is how do you cope with losing them? I feel silly for being so heartbroken over losing an animal that wasn't my pet. But I still feel responsible for her. Any advice is appreciated.

Dearest Podcasters, as a child of the 80’s/90’s, I appreciate a fair amount of the references you speak to. What would you say is the most criminally underrated price of media (tv show, movie, band, book) from that time period. Something you enjoy but maybe others hate or no one remembers. My personal is the TV show Pirates of Darkwater. While I haven’t seen it in years, most have no idea it existed or had the chance to experience the D&D-esque campaign of a the show

FOR JAKE: Have you become nerdier in other parts of your life since starting the show? (I guess what I’m asking is would high school Jake rag on you and why)

Besides NADDPOD, what projects are you guys currently working on? What's your worklife like outside of NADDPOD? Ps I've listened to all of C1, and am caught up to C2 and the current arc in C2 is my favorite out of all the campaigns!

How do you feel about others playing in your worlds? I play in a 100 years later Bahumia game (Dandelion Cybin, second cousin niece twice removed or something to Moonshine, the Crick Elf Community Cleric and Daffodil the entirely black possum) and it is super fun! I write stories about her for my fiction writing class, and am going to write my NaNoWriMo story this year about her and her father figure relationship with Hardwon (he passed away 10 years before this campaign, but don't worry, he's in a polyamorous relationship with Gemma and JV in the afterlife. They are Dani's Spirit Guardian Parental Polycule)!

Great news! Amazon has agreed to make a Bahumia animated series, and you guys get to make it! Caldwell is the art director, Emily does the music, etc. You even get to weigh in on casting decisions. However, you realize that the only way the show gets made is if you stop doing the podcast. You simply don't have time to do both. What do you do? Batch record a ton of content beforehand? Put the podcast on a year long hiatus? Pass on the animated show?

Why is the sky blue?

Give us some extremely niche book/comic/music/etc recommendations! What is something that you love that you never have a chance to recommend to people because it's too old/challenging/weird/or otherwise hyper-specfic to your interests? EG the album you only rock out to when you're alone, or a book you love that nobody you've ever met has read.

For Caldwell, my wife and I are expecting our first child in March, we are excited to become parents and excited for the baby to come. Mixed Bag episodes are often themed around introducing Jake to something new to him that the others already enjoyed. If Jake could pick something he likes to share with the other 3 on a mixed bag, what would it be?

Cody & Tiare P. - Pendergreen's Roommates

Honest opinion: Do you think that is okay for a mother to tell her daughter that she can't get married because she won't be there? I am struggling with actually speaking up for my sister in-law who wanted to elope with her fiancee. When she told the family her mother (my MIL) threw a fit and said that if she gets married she won't talk to her daughter again. They got I to a fight and my sister in-law caved and said she'd wait for covid restrictions to go away. I think that my sister in-law and her husband should do whatever they want but my husband said to not get involved... Maybe I shouldn't start a metaphorical fire?

What has made you laugh the hardest recently? Could be a piece of media, something a friend said, anything really! Share the sources of your joy! Thanks!

Hey! New DM here. I'm DMing a bigger group of 7 players who are also great friends outside of play. I'm wondering about two main things. How do I go about engaging the more timid players so that they'll feel more comfortable taking the spotlight? And how do I also make plotlines that can help engage several of the players at the same time to make sure that everyone invests themselves into the game?

Murph: if you could only play 1 video game for the rest of your life, what would it be?

This one is for the glorious Direct Messenger (or any who would like to answer): I've heard you mention editing the show and I'm interested in making a podcast of my own soon, can you perhaps give some editing tips, software recommendations, general tips? Thank you so much of you do decide to include this question, your show is incredible and it's gotten me through many a rough patch.
