My player missing sessions solution was to play an old out of work actor whose big break is to take over the other characters role, they being on retainer in case someone is busy or cant make it for some reason. They would minimally dress the part (wigs and poor accents) and constantly ask the characters if they can "try that line again" or "what is my motivation here"

I was re-listening to 8 Bit Book Club and right before listening to this I just heard the episode where "Caldeum" was the name of Caldwell's goblin persona and surprisingly he made an appearance in like the first 20 seconds!! Crazy coincidence

So happy to have my question answered! I've been working hard on a d20 random encounter table that my players may come across while traveling. And yes, there is one with some snow goblins who ask the players to fight a hydra on a frozen river! I think I may implement some quick-freezing water mechanics. Thank you! You guys answered my no-healers question. I think I will use the healing surge/Bev's Amulet type mechanic. The Warforged doesn't actually know what his true purpose is (he's just relic discovered near the magical well at the heart of the world). So I'm going to introduce the first time someone gets critical that a hidden compartment appears on him allowing people to bonus action use their hit dice! I also decided to introduce wandering apothecaries where players can spend gold to get rolls on a potion table I created. Some of them are healing potions or potions of strength, but some are love potions that make them charmed by the next person they see or poison that looks like healing potions to keep them on their toes! You all are the best!
