There are Cubans who are black, indigenous, or with white skin, blonde hair and blue eyes (ie: me), and there are Cubans who are a mix of some or all of the above. As Noel said, because of colonialism and the different ethnic groups that eventually started "mixing". That being said, I wouldn't find it offensive if James Franco or another gringo would play Fidel Castro, I just think it will make the movie cringe because the Spanish is going to be awful and Cuban (or if we want to generalize, Carribean) mannerisms are just so hard to capture by someone who isn't from there. If it's not perfect it's gonna suck. Couldn't they have at least found a famous Mexican actor who will have a much easier time pulling off the accent coming from a native Spanish speaking country? At LEAST a Spaniard, as it seems Fidel's ancestors are from Spain based on his appearance LOL. Rant over.
