From the perspective of someone who makes money off of making art normally I’m all for nfts to get a quick buck get your money right but idk when I think about it as a collectible or a actual art piece I just see it as scarcity for the sake of inflated value which idk just screams fad for me not that I’m trying to say they’re gonna crash and burn like some folks are saying I think at worse it’s just distracting from what could be more worthy mediums in the public spotlight. it’s just usually fads aren’t remembered for being particularly enlightening parts of the art scene but an argument can always be made plus I like to keep my mind open. for me and I’m sure many others a one of a kind painting is one of a kind because those strokes in that order will never be recreated nor could it ever be recreated even by it’s original maker though they can attempt to replicate it they’ll never get an exact replica, that’s where the one of a kind value comes from, but by the very nature of code and png or jpeg you can make a perfect copy and a ‘infinite’ number of them can theoretically exist whether they do or don’t they could. even TCGs have somewhat limited print runs to give the cards some sort of real value plus as easy of a point as it is the physicality is still inherently valuable just because there is a limit to how many copies can be made.

The contest was "Hold your wee for a wii." It wasn't just that contestants were drinking a shitload of water, they ALSO couldn't pee. The lady died of water intoxication a few hours later, which had actually happened two years prior to a kid named Matthew Carrington in a hazing ritual. The DJs were fully aware about that case and even joked about it while the contest was happening, some callers called to say that the contest was dangerous but the DJs said that the contestants had signed waivers and couldn't sue. They literally knew they might kill someone and didn't give a shit. They did all get fired pretty much immediately (though they all have gone on to have good careers in radio since then, unfortunately) and the station was eventually shut down because of the incident though that took nearly a decade. Her kids won over $16m in the lawsuit.
