also I’m 21 and everyone my age still uses Snapchat pretty regularly. I think it’s because it was created when we were in like 7th grade so we’ve just grown up using it. However, this past weekend my best friend and i were on a girls trip in austin and met a bunch of guys from different bachelor parties at the bar, & got a few of them on Snapchat. In no more than one week I’ve noticed a weird similarity between the way 28 year old and 14 year olds use Snapchat. Their stories are all either weird selfies with filters and a caption that’s way too long/supposed to be funny but isnt, or just a picture of a car on the street with no context. Like they will just post anything. Weird generation gap there

So on this shifting thing, I actually did this when I was 8-14 but didn’t realize. I was locked at home by physically abusive parents until age 15, so I used to focus really hard so that I could trick my brain into thinking I was with my favorite superheroes in another world. It was literally like I was there. I lost the ability as I got older, but I became a licensed therapist and I actually found the real diagnosis: Maladaptive Daydreaming. So I think you guys are really right when you associate this whole shifting thing with teenage trauma. But we can obviously tell that there’s a bunch of bullshitters on TT so it’s been annoying as hell. But yeah, it’s a real thing, but it’s pretty rare.
