The subtitles are a bit off, but Ryoji Kaji “Mr. Kaji/ Kaji-San” is basically the Misato for Asuka. He is in charge of her care just as Misato is in charge of Shinji’s. Asuka’s name is pronounced “Aw-ska” not “A-su-ka”. The u is silent for her Japanese name.
