I don’t agree with Marsh that it’s a bad thing that parents aren’t consulted before a kid uses their preferred name. Not all families are safe, and school should be safe. I wasn’t the first person my trans son told, and I was happy that his teachers were taking his safety, identity, and comfort very seriously.
