That's all fair to say. I think maybe I should've said that they're CONSIDERED less safe and efficient. And I was thinking more specifically about fieldwork, like harvesting grain. I'm sure they're generally fine for the typical one-person job, but I haven't used one myself.

Sickles are found in antique stores but failing that try lehmansnonelectric.com. you'll need a sharpening stone as well. I find sickles a faster, quieter and longer lasting string-trimmer for brush cutting and the rapid harvest of herbs. I guarantee that if you use a sickle or scythe for their jntended purposes at work you will be more watched by rubber neckers than ever before

I’d actually say they’re more efficient on rough terrain. A grass scythe could clear an overgrown field way quicker than a mower unless it was an expensive mower

I volunteered at a donkey rescue in college! They are basically big puppy dogs that hesadbutt you for pets and roll around in the dirt. I did get kicked once and can confirm that it hurts lol. (Came with the territory. Socializing abused animals comes with risks)

My fundamentalist friend was telling me that donkeys are a Christian animal because they are the "only" animals with a cross on their back. So Jesus came into Jerusalem on a donkey i.e. a cross and left on a cross. Idk if this is a new line of thinking but it might explain the donkey obsession.

Donkeys can reproduce fine, you're thinking of mules, which is the hybrid offspring of a male donkey and a female horse, which generally are infertile

I've heard that they're the best for watching llamas. I don't know exactly why; it's just a fact I've heard people say. I'm guessing for that security reason, exactly.

I don't think they're super common now because they're less efficient and safe than the modern alternatives.

Donkeys are apparently good security for other animals. There's a pig rescue near us-- yes, pigs, and goats! -- they told us how the donkey keeps away snakes and coyotes out whatever else because the donkey takes NO SHIT and will stomp an intruder.

I went to a horse auction - like it’s someone buys them or they become glue and overseas meat - and there were SOOOO many donkeys … I don’t know anything about why but they FAR out numbered the horses … I also really enjoyed being the first tattooed, pierced, and trans person these rural Texas people had seen ..

Thomas and Eli seem to have confused donkeys with Mules/Hinnies. Donkeys can definitely mate with other donkeys and have fertile young, they are a species. A Donkey and Horse, produce Mules or Hunnies which are infertile, because horses and donkeys are different species. However, all of these animals are clearly inferior to the Zeedonk!
