GAM Bonus 081: Simon Sez
🕑 Added 2023-05-27 20:28:48 +0000 UTCThis week, we learn why they stopped putting Dennis Rodman in movies.
Note: This episode was recorded at the end of April, as there was nowhere in our schedules to stick it during the month of May. I wanted to point that out because there's a quick exchange at one point about Chat GPT writing movie scripts that might seem a bit tone deaf during the writers strike. Just to be clear, this was recorded before that strike began and the exchange was NOT in reference to writers' demands. We support the striking writers 100%

Willing to bet they mean caprese in the capisce joke

Oh right! They did do Double Team. Gonna give that one a relisten

I cringed every time they said Pinetti

I hate it so much that John Pinette is in this movie. I love that guy soo much. And to be that guy, pronounced Pin-it... you know what, it's probably better that nobody knows he's in this movie

The entire time I was listening to this I was like, "They did this movie already. Right?" The hacking and there were monks, somehow making Dennis Fucking Rodman the smart one and it actually works in the context of the movie. In that same vein, somehow he isn't the worst one in the movie. Then I realized I was thinking of Double Team. Holy Crap.

Probably my hopeless nerd showing, but every time they referenced THE Dancer, all I could picture was the Dancer of the Boreal Valley from Dark Souls 3. It made the mental image of many of these scenes far more amusing than the movie ever could

Dane Cook!? The karate of comedians?

Do you mean like... bukkake? I get what you're saying but I also have never heard that word pluralized.
Markus Nävergård
dudebros obviously

You made the "Finding Jesus" reference, so I have to share this moment I had some time back. Remember Boocakes? Hear me out, but I think whoever named him mispronounced "Bukakes."
Markus Nävergård
oh that be great

So Zorros sounds like Zardoz, which should be added to the bonus list (in my humble opinion)

I’d love fewer chat gpt jokes overall.

WHAT WAS THE AUDIENCE FOR THIS MOVIE!? It's got a rapey sex scene but also elementary school-level comedy!?
Jaytee Starr
I think more specifically it might have been caprese? Because you could look at it and think "ka-prēce"? That was my guess.
Markus D
I'm pretty confident that the "Capisce?" "I'm not hungry" joke is just "he is uncultured and all the Italian words he knows refer to food."

Heath Enwright, don't you dare pretend to be shocked by the existence of pocket potatoes.

Quiche!!!

I'm more curious why they ever started putting Dennis Rodman in movies. Was "flamboyant sports player" really all it took to have a brief film career, inspire a video game character, and go on to act as a pseudo ambassador to a dictatorial regime?

"Simon says" was said more times in Demolition Man... that just seems rude.

Yes! Yes! My birthday comes early!!

Dane Cook's window of stardom and lead roles in movies is *after* this movie. Opposite Jessica Simpson in 2006, Jessica Alba in 2007, supporting role with with Kevin Costner and Demi Moore 2007, supporting role with Steve Carrell in 2007, opposite Kate Hudson in 2008, and then he moves more to TV and straight to DVD. So this is his start, not his end. Almost makes one believe in a devil to make deals with.

Of course I, a normal human being having never heard of the film, Googled a plot synopsis which made me shout aloud to myself: "What the hell am I reading?!"

So not Die Hard with a Vengeance.... Disappointed.
