“A bad ripoff of ET paid for by Coke and McDonald’s” is almost the most ‘80s thing you could possibly have. All it needed was Dementia Reagan to wander through trying to find a monkey from Planet of the Apes. Also sounds like they should have gotten a crystal ball and predicted the magic Foreigner belt from Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

Yeah, my mom took my brother and me to see ET in theaters. The ventilation tubes and science-y protective suits terrified me as well. My mom somehow got the idea that I loved this movie, so she bought the VHS tape and even the shitty Atari game. I've never understood its lasting success either. As for my mom, it's almost like she was co-dependent with my dickwad brother and didn't know anything about me.

Okay, this was one of the best GAM bonus episodes to date. 😂

Hot take? I think this movie is better than E.T. because at least you can watch this to laugh at it while E.T. is like... 20 minutes longer, but feels like it's an hour longer. I don't understand why E.T. was so popular. I remember it scaring me as a kid when they were being quarantined by the government and the rest of the time I just thought it was really boring and the alien looked gross.
Too old for this ish
I love that the pole makes it look like he's peeing.

I don't think I've ever seen my mum driving without a ceramic mug with her :)

Taking issue with the ceramic mug point. I’m a potter and I drink out of a ceramic mug in the car every morning. :P
Khaaan!!!
Los Angeles has a Department of Water and Power. Like in Tank Girl :P. It sounded like the hosts didn't think that was a real thing?

Tina Caspary (Courtney) played Kelly Bundy in the original pilot for "Married.. With Children". And... ALAN SILVESTRI scored this. And this was AFTER he did "Back To The Future" and "Romancing The Stone"...
Uriah Jackson
One of the writers of this movie also wrote Tammy and the T-Rex (another movie that should be a bonus one day), but also wrote Ice Pirates, a movie that's kind of funny. The other writer wrote When a Stranger Calls.

You guys should really look up the Japanese cut of the climax on youtube,it still includes Eric getting drilled by the cops
Look over there!
Threw Eli's face on the poster, it was surprisingly easy to find him making a similar face to MAC online... https://imgur.com/a/62M66h6

Completely unresearched opinion about 80's movies: They were moving to LA because it was filmed in LA. They were moving from Chicago because it was filmed in IL. Both was both.
Catholic Jerry (formally atheist Jerry, the inquisition showed me the light)
Mst3k did this one as well on their second Netflix season if anyone is interested. It's hilarious
General Contact Unit Problem Child
am I crazy for saying this movie wasn't actually that bad as far as disability representation goes, especially for 1988? they got a disabled actor, the kid's disability isn't the focus of the plot and the movie doesn't act like he's broken and needs constant supervision. That's actually pretty good.
Buoyant Citrus
Not to mention the paraplegic athlete!

The only reason that I knew about this movie is Paul Rudd pranking late night shows with it.

Thanks. I needed this today.

I always conflate this one with Batteries Not Included, a film from the same era about cute flying robots befriending the residents of a retirement community. So, Cocoon with a shittier premise and zero Wilford Brimley.
