When this came out on VHS we got it as an xmas present and immediately watched it three times in a row.

So fun fact, this was the only Godzilla movie I saw until I was a teen. I was aware that the Japanese movies existed somewhere but I never saw them, this was the only one that was on TV in my country (because it turns out our TV stations are some greedy shits, and we were poor), for years I thought that this was the best one and that this is how Godzilla was supposed to look, I wasn't even aware he was supposed to have nuclear breath. So I used to love this movie, when I saw that the guys reviewed it I went full Heath with the 80's movies. 😅

As bad as this movie was, and it is many degrees of awful, Jean Reno IS the best thing about it. He's the only reason it's even remotely watchable.

I remember nearly dying from laughter at the first scene in the fishing ship... Not because the guy is "loo loo loo, doing Japan stuff" but the TV screen has a gigantic logo that says "相撲", sumo. I went "Yeah. Duh. Thanks for the info, Hollywood."

Hey if y’all wanna cleanse your pallets with actual good Godzilla there are actually a couple that aren’t just good bad. There’s the original of course, but then there’s also the 2016 remake Shin Godzilla, which is a remake of the original that actually steeped the Japanese academy awards for that year. My other recommendation is Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All Out Attack, which is the best movie to have the worst possible title but trust me, I am a Godzilla expert.
