WE CELEBRATE BENEOS TOKENS 2.0 -> BENEOS TOKENS, SPELLS & ITEMS
Back when we decided to launch Beneos Tokens alongside Beneos Battlemaps, we were inspired by the idea of creating a single hub containing a whole P&P universe. Now, with the completion of the Beneos Module and the launch of Beneos Tokens, Spells & Items we've taken a huge step towards that end goal! After a year's worth of work, we're finally ready to present you the bright new future of Beneos Tokens 2.0 and the load of features that go along with it!
TL;DR:
Beneos 2.0 ensures a single, future-proof platform for all future releases and combines Beneos Tokens and Battlemaps into one module. We've updated every last Token, optimized and fixed them individually. You need to download the Beneos Module and ALL EXISTING REGULAR TOKENS. YOU'LL FIND A DETAILED BREAKDOWN UNDER "6. WHAT CHANGES FOR YOU".
1. Item and Spell Cards
Since the beginning of the year, we've gradually included more and more content each week, like releasing Loyalty Tokens each month to reward subsequent subscriptions and adding themed items and spells to releases, to further explore the respective week's creature's general atmosphere.
With this update, Spells and Items are upgraded from a nice bonus added to the PDF for avid readers to a key feature of this Patreon.
Every month, four items and four spells will be added to the Beneos Module and, as detailed further below, to a printable document.
These cards are integrated into Foundry and also contain a link to the Master Post, from whence you can download the printable PDFs.
The same goes for our spells. The spells are a great opportunity to (positively, we hope) defy your players expectations by confronting them with various new takes on the arcane arts. We will continuously release new spells for every spell school, go beyond the limitations imposed on magic users by having to confine their ideas to a limited space in a printed medium and we will make sure to properly agitate the different divine, infernal or primordial authorities tasked with preventing us mortals from getting too freaky with magic.
2. Updated Search Engine
In turn, we've upgraded the Beneos Search Engine to include both items and spells, allowing you to quickly scan or leisurely browse an ever expanding trove of artifacts and incantations to hand out to your players after a tough battle or to add to the inventory of a shifty magic item merchant of your choice. Both are illustrated and fully integrated into Foundry VTT, allowing you or your players to instantly get use out of them without major adjustments.
The Search Engine got a major optical overhaul and allows you to filter via a plethora of different tags like rarity, cost or origin for the items and school or level for spells. There'll be a deep dive into the search engine soon, but it's also really intuitive and just plain fun to use, so check it out yourself!
We pride ourselves on having a unique and consistent philosophy revolving around power, flavour and gameplay balance. Having both items and spells as entries within a live database allows us to make balancing adjustments on the fly should the need arise. The database is constantly maintained and updated and every entry can be changed or modified on a whim, which lets us directly react to input we receive from you. In this day and age, this just feels right.
Oh yeah, we are also adding the SRD spells, for good measure.

You can also visit a new website to browse the search engine, so you can plan your encounter, stuff a hoard with magic items or prepare new spells while on the go!
3. Printable Spell and Item Cards
In addition to their Foundry VTT integration, the spells and item cards will be added to an continuously growing collection of PDF archives optimised for printing, enabling you, as if by magic, to introduce the ethereal concepts of digital goods into the profane material world as physical items. You can touch them. You can hoard them. There are few things better in TTRPG (or life, honestly) than handing out or having handed to you item or spells cards, going over the lore snippets, gauging your newfound power and imagining your character now decked out with new and unique gear.
These PDF archives will be linked in the Master Post accessible to every Patron. As the items are added to the database, they will be added to the print sheet as well. Every month we'll release four items and four spells this way, already included in your current subscription model!
4. The Beneos Module
All of this is made possible by the interconnecting, nigh-arcane entity that is the new Beneos Module. We are now officially Foundry Developers, meaning the Beneos Module can be downloaded via the Foundry Module Browser.
The whole Beneos experience just got so much better, with better downloads, less errors, better quality, new fancy item and spell cards, an improved search engine interface and a more stable database accessible outside of Foundry. It also serves as a stable base for further quality of life content and everything being interconnected via one all-encompassing Module means less manual labor for you.
5. What changes for you?
!!! PLEASE READ CAREFULLY !!!
Most importantly: The pricing will stay the same. You won't pay more, you just get extra content.
What changes is the general module structure due to the extensive overhaul and the fact that the old module is dead and will no longer be supported. We have done everything in our power to make the move as smooth as possible, but there are still a few things you need to do by hand.
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
1. DOWNLOAD the new Beneos Module via the FoundryVTT module browser.
2. SAVE YOUR LOYALTY TOKENS AND SHOP ITEMS (BACKUP THEM SOMEWERE) (all token folders beginning with 000_ ) (They are already in the updated form and work with the new structure out of the box. We put them back later in the process)
3. Delete the old Beneos Tokens Module (VERY IMPORTANT!)
4. Delete ALL your Tokens (YES YOU HEARD RIGHT) and delete the beneos_tokens_assets folder from FoundryVTT_Assets/Data
5. Download ALL UPDATED TOKENS, SPELLS and ITEMS from your DOWNLOAD LIST
6. Add your LOYALTY TOKENS AND SHOP ITEMS back into your new token folder (Foundry VTT Installation \ data \ beneos_assets \ beneos_tokens)
7. USE THE NEW FOLDER STRUCTURE (VERY IMPORTANT)
- OLD STRUCTURE (DELETE ENTIRELY):
- Foundry VTT Installation \ data \ beneos_tokens_assets \ token folders
- NEW STRUCTURE (REDOWNLOAD ENTIRELY):
- Foundry VTT Installation \ data \ beneos_assets \ beneos_tokens \ Token Folders
- Foundry VTT Installation \ data \ beneos_assets \ beneos_items \ Item Folders
- Foundry VTT Installation \ data \ beneos_assets \ beneos_spells \ Spell Folders
8. Scan with the new Beneos Module for new content and you are good to go! Welcome to Beneos, Spells and Items !

6. All the content will be saved as .zip files from now on.
A downloading vast amounts of data from whatever file sharing service we use always causes files to just go missing from time to time. The switch to .zip downloads prevents this, as a .zip with missing files will just not download instead of downloading partially and causing errors upon being integrated into foundry.
This needs to be done because we've gone over every Foundry sheet and updated every Token, taking in your feedback trying to bring several years of content in line.
7. A glimpse into the future!
Going forward, we are working on further linking all the moving parts of our ever-growing Beneos cosmos, like adding all the lore snippets and story prompts to the recently previewed world map of Escalia, along with battlemap and token suggestions, to allow you to find inspiration in a setting thats constantly evolving with any map, token, spell or item release, creating a web of lore and adventures over time!
On the technical side of things, we will continue to update the Beneos Module with new features and quality of life improvements for Tokens and Battlemaps.
Because this update and the changes over at Beneos Battlemaps tied up most of our ressources for a significant part of this year, we are extremely eager to finally work on release more Token Packs akin to the Goblin Raiding Rabble, as well as battlepacks containing a set of maps and tokens tailored for a specific encounter. We spent so much time laying the groundwork, the Beneos Module and the new system finally formed the solid foundation we needed to really build upon.
We will continue to improve, continually working on ways to deliver on our need to provide a polished experience. Our quick start guides have evolved over time, from a few tactical tidbits highlighting some of the monster's key abilities to detailed paragraphs contextualising the creature within our database's tag system and (hopefully) easing you into integrating them into your game! The next step will be a schematic quick guide for each monster, with the explicit goal of allowing you to run a monster seamlessly without much preparation, ideally just by glancing at the quick guide.
