Although Yan Nie did not directly join the Immortal Court, Yun Xialan was different. She was still a member of the Cloud Goddess Cult, and since it merged with the Immortal Court, she became a member of the Immortal Court.
Normally, it would be impossible for a member of a force to marry or become dao companions with another cultivator if they were not a loose cultivator. Yan Nie was different. He was not directly affiliated with the Immortal Court but with the Cultivator Alliance, which was a vassal force, meaning they were related, if convoluted in connection.
Yan Nie did not receive the best treatment from the Immortal Court because he was not a direct member, but his mastery of alchemy allowed him to amass wealth far more easily than the majority of immortals. As for rare resources that could not be obtained without connections, he was part of the Samsara Travelers Chat Group and had a close relationship with Tianyi, so that wasn’t a problem either.
That, combined with his own talent, allowed Yan Nie to successfully reach the Origin Immortal Realm over ten thousand years ago.
Yan Nie had already started this process while he was an immortal monarch. Otherwise, he would not have been able to merge the fires with other elemental attributes in his World Incinerating Mandala.
He didn’t want to merge only three laws with the Law of Fire, but four laws: the Law of Water, the Law of Earth, the Law of Metal, and the Law of Wood. Yan Nie didn’t expect that he would accidentally merge all five elemental laws while inside the Nine Heavens Universe.
Had Yan Nie merged the five elemental laws as a true immortal, he could have become an immortal monarch with the Law of Five Phases as his foundation like Ba Shifang, but he wasn’t too disappointed.
Yan Nie had chosen to follow the path of fire since before he became an immortal. Even if he had comprehended a trace of the Law of Five Phases, he might have still chosen to use the Law of Fire as the foundation of his immortal body.
After comprehending the Law of Five Phases, his road to the Divine Realm became clear. As long as he could fuse the entire Law of Five Phases with the Law of Fire, he would reach godhood.
His progress was sometimes fast, sometimes slow, but it never stopped. Nor did he rest on his laurels. For tens of thousands of years, Yan Nie persisted, and his efforts were rewarded as he successfully became an immortal emperor, and then an immortal sovereign.
As Yan Nie’s wife and dao companion, Yun Xialan had always wanted to be able to stand side-by-side.
Yun Xialan was not attracted to Yan Nie’s talent, but his character. Although Yan Nie was talented, that was only taking into consideration the average level of talent in the Pan Kingdom. Without considering even the Central Heaven Region of the original Heaven Continent, Yan Nie’s talent was only considered above average in the Northern Region.
She had the confidence to raise Yan Nie’s realm to the Immortal Realm within three thousand years. That way, both husband and wife could experience the endless years together.
Only, Yun Xialan never expected her childhood sweetheart’s potential to be so high, and for him to cultivate so fast. Now, instead of helping him, she could only stare at his back.
Yun Xialan was not bad herself. She reached the Seamless Immortal Realm, a feat over ninety percent of true immortals could never reach. But Yun Xialan knew her success was inseparable from the resources contributed by Yan Nie. Instead of her helping Yan Nie, it was him pulling her along.
Of course, Yun Xialan knew that she had the potential to become an immortal monarch. If she didn’t, she would not have become the Holy Cloud Saintess and the Cloud Duchess’s disciple.
However, she also knew that her chances of entering the Extremity Immortal Realm were extremely slim, not to mention the Origin Immortal Realm. It was likely that her willpower would reach its limit before she could reach that level.
So, Yun Xialan chose the same path as her teacher. She ascended to godhood using faith, reached the emperor level, and took on the title of Gale Marchioness.
Now, she, along with her master, the Cloud Duchess, were known as the Twin Storm Goddesses. All they were missing was another divinity to take on the authority of lightning and thunder, and the weather trio would be complete.
“Fall,” Yun Xialan softly said. She wore cloud-white robes with embroideries depicting wind and clouds. Coiled around her arms was a long and fleeting scarf that was so clear it was almost invisible.
She pointed her finger at a sword monarch, and a breeze flew past her. However, when it reached the sword monarch, the gentle breeze transformed into a terrifying storm of blades.
The sword monarch wanted to cut down those wind blades, but when his weapon came into contact, the wind blades phased through as if they were formless wind. When they touched his body, they transformed back into those terrifying slashes.
“Ahhh!” the sword monarch screamed. Those wind blades were not simple slashes. In fact, they were composed of countless tiny blades, and when they came into contact with his body, they pierced each individual cell on his body before rotating and sawing his flesh like a chainsaw.
When the attack ended, although his body appeared fine with no major cuts or tears on his robes, a third of his body had already died. The sword monarch stared at Yun Xialan in fear before turning tail and fleeing. While fleeing, he also swiftly sent out warnings to his fellow sword immortals.
How could Yun Xialan allow her prey to escape? When she moved in for the kill, she had to stop and avoid a crescent-shaped sword light flying at her.
She looked up to see a sword emperor. A cold light flashed in Yun Xialan’s eyes. “Don’t interfere.”
“Interfere? Battles have always been conducted between two experts on the same level. I’m only interfering because you are deliberately bullying those weaker than you,” the sword emperor said.
Yun Xialan’s elegant brows twitched. ‘Bullying those weaker than me? Have I already reached the emperor level?’
Although her thoughts were not on the battle, she did not allow it to affect her.
“You shouldn’t be some unknown expert. My title is Bladeheart, what’s yours?”
Yun Xialan coldly rejected Emperor Bladeheart’s request. “Don’t care. Die!”
She swung her arm toward the sword emperor and her scarf whipped forward.
“So cold,” Emperor Bladeheart teased with a flippant tone. Although he seemed easy-going, his swing was extremely sharp. “Hm?”
He had aimed to slice the seemingly frail scarf, but his sword had only repelled the scarf. Although he was not one of the sword emperors chosen to wield one of the Immortal Exterminating Swords, his strength placed him solidly among the upper-middle rank.
Emperor Bladeheart estimated that the scarf was at least an immortal emperor-level artifact. He had to sigh at the Immortal Court’s wealth. Through several clashes, it was determined that almost every emperor-level war formation and immortal emperor fielded by the Immortal Court each had at least one emperor-level artifact.
Both sides appeared similar since he also had only one emperor-level artifact, his sword, but the amount of emperor-level war formations and immortal emperors from the Immortal Court outnumbered the Numinous Sword Sect’s. Not to mention that the sword emperors on the lower end of the spectrum could only use monarch-level artifacts.
The wealth disparity was almost despairing.
However, the thoughts of inadequacy did not slow down his sword. If anything, Emperor Bladeheart became fiercer. Since the Numinous Sword Sect was at such a large disadvantage, he could only make up for it by killing more enemies!
After a few hundred clashes, Yun Xialan was pushed to the point that she had to use both ends of her scarf as whips. Emperor Bladeheart also had a second sword in his free hand. Not only that, but she and Emperor Bladeheart were only tens of meters apart, a very dangerous proximity to a sword immortal.
‘My foundation is too shallow. If I continue to entangle with him, I’ll use up all the faith energy I accumulated. Once that happens, I’ll be nothing more than a sitting duck,’ Yun Xialan thought. Since that was the case, she prepared to disengage.
“Want to escape? Don’t go, our rendezvous has only begun,” Emperor Bladeheart said. Despite his flirtatious words, each of his swings was full of killing intent.
Suddenly, Emperor Bladeheart felt the threat of death. Disregarding everything, he used every ounce of his energy to flee as far as possible.
And not a moment too soon, as where he once flew spontaneously combusted into a five-colored flame. Although the five-colored flame quickly disappeared, it attracted the attention of all the sovereign-level immortals on the battlefield. Even Divinity Yanxu’s attacks halted for a split second because of its appearance.
However, Yun Xialan did not pay attention to this. She looked toward the source of the fire. “Brother Nie, why are you here? Didn’t you say you didn’t have any interest?”
In the sky above her stood Yan Nie. He appeared to be in his mid-twenties, with loose black locks resting on his shoulders. His body looked skinny, but his shoulders could support the heavens.
“How could I not come when I heard you were joining? As a husband, isn’t it only right to stand by my wife?”
Despite herself, Yun Xialan couldn’t help but blush. Even after the tens of thousands of years they spent together, her feelings for Yan Nie remained the same, like a young girl in love. The only thing that changed was that she showed it more openly now.
While they were having their moment, a frivolous voice broke it. “My, my, don’t I feel like a third party? It’s too bad. I would have loved to reenact a tragic story of enemies becoming a pair of star-crossed lovers.”
Yan Nie turned toward Emperor Bladeheart with none of the tenderness he showed to his wife. “Don’t think I forgot about you. I can accept you flirting with Xialan. After all, who wouldn’t be attracted to her? But since you dared to hurt her, prepare to die.”
“Oh my, I’m really scared,” Emperor Bladeheart said as he entered a defensive stance.
Yan Nie didn’t waste any words. He raised his hand above his head, and a five-colored lotus made of flames appeared. The lotus ballooned. Just as it seemed to reach its limit, it popped, but flames did not scatter everywhere. Instead, countless tiny replicas of the five-colored lotus floated through the air.
The drifting five-colored lotuses made a picturesque moment, but wherever the lotuses passed, the temperature rose to a terrifying degree. If a transcending mortality saint appeared, they would be roasted to death by the sheer temperature. Even true immortals would have to evacuate the vicinity.
Even a sword emperor was not having an easy time. Though the lotuses were mesmerizing, they flew terrifyingly fast.
Emperor Bladeheart could not outspeed the lotuses, so he could only cut them down. That was easier said than done. First, whenever he gazed at a lotus, he could feel it bewitch him. Once or twice might not mean much, but all the lotuses had similar bewitchments. Second, his sword was deforming!
Yes, his emperor-level artifact was melting each time it made contact with Yan Nie’s five-colored lotuses. First, its edge softened and dulled. The blade turned red from the intense temperature and even started curling after cutting the hundredth lotus.
Although the sword was not turned into scrap metal, its power could not even reach a tenth of its former height. With the reduction of the artifact’s effectiveness, Emperor Bladeheart also suffered.
The monarch-level sword in his left hand had long since reduced to ashes, and burns covered his entire body. Still, he held onto a smile. “This is really bad. Unfortunately, it seems I might not make it. I only have one wish.”
Emperor Bladeheart looked at Yan Nie. “Can you finish me off with your hand? It is not a loss to lose my life to someone as powerful as you.”
Yan Nie did not answer. Instead, five differently colored flames appeared behind him. They merged together, forming a fiery pattern in three seconds.
“Huh, guess it was wishful thinking,” Emperor Bladeheart said. He clicked his tongue, but his eyes showed that he had not given up.
But before he could do anything, a sword light shot out of nowhere and pierced Yan Nie’s World Incinerating Mandala. All the concentrated power exploded and engulfed Yan Nie and the surrounding area in a blazing explosion.
“Brother Nie!” Yun Xialan shouted in fright.

WAIT JUST A SECOND!! Yun Xialan's wind cutting ability is SUSPICIOUSLY identical to the technique of a certain fantasy ninja protagonist. This smells like rassengan to me. And Yan Nie is definitely fine. I'm surprised to see two new Origin Immortals, both Voidink and Yan Nie. Seems like Dao Yi is getting left behind! Hopefully it gets revealed soon that she also entered the Origin Immortal realm in the past few years. Merging the five elements with the law of "Life and Death" is almost certainly more difficult than merging the other four with the law of Fire, but I feel like she also has more advantages to help her along the path of dao comprehension than Yan Nie. Hopefully she isn't far behind.
