Chapter 592: Divine Devil
🕑 Added 2025-05-21 13:00:18 +0000 UTCThe Immortal Court did not chase the fleeing devils, but focused on the devils that still weren’t willing to give up. Although they could chase those fleeing devils for more points, it was much safer to stay back and tend to their wounded. After all, destroying a Mictlan contributed more points than killing countless devils.
Just because the immortals did not give chase did not mean Tianyi wouldn’t take action. Just like before, he shot countless lasers and vaporized many of the fleeing devils. The stronger ones survived, but the majority of the weaker ones perished in the light.
After the grand battle, the Immortal Court stationed some squads to guard the former core of the Mictlan, while the rest returned to the fortress city. Although they had shattered the core, if the devils congregated again and increased the density of the devilish energy, it was not out of the realm of possibility for the core to regenerate and cause all their efforts to go down the *drain.
The immortals rested a bit before gathering inside the fortress. Although the Immortal Court had an army of over ten thousand large, a small minority were responsible only for logistics. They were the ones that calculated the points.
Normally, the immortals would extract the heart of the devil they slew as proof, but the grand battle was too chaotic and large. So even though everyone participated, they could not tally using devil hearts.
Instead, the immortals would extract the devil hearts and store in it the fortress. The logistic members would review the recordings on the Xiyi Talisman and distribute contribution points based on that. It wasn’t perfect, but better than having the immortals fight to cut out devil hearts.
Naturally, Tianyi was at the top of the list. His points were so exaggerated that even if the second to the thousandth place added their points together, it could only equal his score.
Tianyi simply contributed too much. His gravity field and lasers contributed a lot to the success and lowered casualty of the Immortal Court. Even if he only took part in the grand battle, he could still eclipse other immortals who worked tirelessly.
Actually, Tianyi could have had a lot more points. His cross-universe teleportation brought too many conveniences, and he also guarded the fortress city. It would not be an overstatement to say that with Tianyi’s presence, no devil could break the walls.
Breaking the wall was impossible, but devils could still sneak in, so guards were still necessary.
After the points were announced, many immortals redeemed them. Although a few were unhappy with the amount they got and wanted to file a complaint, there was video evidence, so most failed to receive more points.
The true immortal redeemed pills, rare materials, techniques, and many other materials that could help them increase their strength or comprehend an entire worldly law. Those that wanted to comprehend an entire law and become an immortal monarch returned to the Three Thousand Immortal Realms.
Since the Mictlan was destroyed, they could choose to retire or continue. Along with those who chose to retire, many injured immortals were also sent back through Tianyi’s portal.
After sending the retirees back, the Immortal Court did not relocate to another Mictlan. Instead, they waited over a hundred years for the devilish energy to dissipate and the core to fully disintegrate. Even if the devils gathered in large numbers again, they would not be able to restore the core. It would be much easier to create a larger Mictlan.
While waiting, some of them visited Tenochtitlan. It was not that the capital city of the Nahui Ollin System required their visit, but the ranking list for all the systems was built there. Not only could the participants view it, but so could the natural denizens of Nahui Ollin.
Tianyi knew what the god queen of Nahui Ollin wanted to do. She wanted to raise morale for her believers. Considering her motive for offering the Nahui Ollin as the trial grounds to select the alliance leader, it was not too surprising.
Currently, the Three Thousand Immortal Realms System was ranked fourth. They did not have the most divinities, but because of their unique nature, they had the most ‘demigods.’ Which allowed them to eliminate many devils and four Mictlans.
It worked. Not only were the denizens of Tenochtitlan becoming more and more hopeful, so were the mortals of other cities. The frequency of sacrifices also decreased, which raised the mood even more. After all, few would choose to sacrifice themselves if they didn’t have any choice.
At the top was the Herakles System. Tianyi would be disappointed if they weren’t. Relying on the fact that Tianyi left a conduit on Olympus, they worked out a deal with the Immortal Court.
The Immortal Court knew that they had given up the chance to become the alliance leader, so they were happy to support one. Tianyi’s existence brought the same convenience, and it wasn’t long before the other pantheons discovered this.
They had already valued Tianyi’s ability, but they had underestimated his power. They thought that even if he could teleport across the universe, it should cost a lot of resources.
So, they convened an emergency All Pantheon Conference in order to forbid Tianyi from aiding the Herakles System. The Herakles System didn’t want to, but the pantheons saw how great of an advantage it brought, so they did not give up. Either everyone could use it, or no one could use it.
The Immortal Court didn’t want to provide Tianyi’s services for free, so they objected. In the end, the Herakles System had to stop using Tianyi’s convenient services for the duration of the competition. The Immortal Court was exempt because Tianyi was originally a member of the Immortal Court and they had already given up candidacy for the alliance leader.
The All Pantheon Conference halted the Herakles System surging lead. Although it wasn’t easy, they had a much higher chance of catching and replacing the Herakles System now.
That wasn’t the only trouble.
As the number of Mictlans decreased, unrest became more frequent in the cities. Before, the devils would primarily stay in the Mictlans because it was more comfortable. Their presence would also speed up the encroachment of the Mictlans, causing them to grow faster.
Now that they were destroyed, the devils became unrestrained. Some might turn to other Mictlans and some would set their sights on the mortals. This drastically increased the death rate of the mortals in the frontier cities.
Of course, the various pantheons would not care about this minor trouble. Compared to hunting devils that targeted cities, slaying them in Mictlan was easier and more profitable.
Tlaloc couldn’t force the various pantheons to hunt the devils either. Everyone had agreed to the point method, and it was impossible to raise the points for hunting devils inside cities. It was even more impossible to halt the destruction of Mictlans for scattered remnants. If they did, more Mictlans would pop up, wasting all their previous efforts.
This was where the weaker systems came in. Many weaker systems had to rely on stronger systems just to traverse the True Nothingness. These vassal systems had a very high casualty rate when entering Mictlans, and each demigod-level fighter was much more precious to them.
These devils attacking cities were perfect for them. Compared to Mictlans, these devils numbered less, and they were much weaker since their power was not enhanced by the environment.
It was just right for them.
After ascertaining their rank and returning, the ground shook. Gradually, the land the fortress city had been built upon rose into the sky and floated off into the distance.
The fortress city only stopped when it came near another Mictlan. It descended and merged with the surrounding land. Had the environment not been different, it would have given an illusion that the city was still in the same place.
A few days later, scouts infiltrated the new Mictlan, scouting the land and noting down important locations and landmarks. Although it wasn’t perfect, it was sufficient for now. Tianyi also helped. He released his universe sense and drew a rough map. He couldn’t get all the details right because the devilish energy that permeated the land interfered with his senses.
After the initial start, everything proceeded as normal. Like usual, the Immortal Court started cautiously, focusing on eliminating as many devils as possible. Certainly, Tianyi could enter gung-ho, but even he would struggle with the sheer numbers. If he agitated them too much, they might overflow and destroy the fortress city, so it was better to cull them first.
Tianyi continued to shadow Daoyi after she assembled a new squad to earn contribution points. During this period, he also took out some time to scour the Mictlan to see if he could find Duke Dantalion. He hadn’t forgotten how the devil lord had teamed up with Chunsang to kill him.
Alas, he could neither find a hide nor hair of the devil lord.
The years passed. The Immortal Court, along with many other pantheons, continued their systemic destruction of the devil lairs. Although there was a surge in chaos in the cities with each Mictlan, the chaos eventually receded after a certain point. Now, after a Mictlan was destroyed, there would only be a short period of chaos before those devils were disposed of.
Eventually, the various pantheons destroyed the majority of the Mictlans, leaving less than ten.
The Immortal Court’s rank also fell from fourth to ninth. Although they kept their pace and even increased it a bit, the other pantheons all stepped up their efforts to a much higher degree than them.
Since they didn’t have to fight for candidacy, the Immortal Court didn’t feel like they had to fight with the other pantheons and sow enmity. As long as they were in the top ten, the Immortal Court wouldn’t care.
During this competition, although the Herakles System maintained first place, several other pantheons almost narrowly surpassed it. The closest to achieving this feat were the Thorson System and Ma’at System.
Even without the Immortal Court's full efforts, all the Mictlans would soon be eliminated.
God Queen Tlaloc had shed tears when she realized the liberation of the Nahui Ollin System from the devils was near. They were not her tears alone, but the tears of the mortals and the world itself.
When she shed tears, light rain drizzled upon the formerly infected land. The land was revitalized. Tiny sprouts broke through the dirt, and baby animals explored the flourishing grounds.
Soon, the mortals moved into the lands. There were some ruins of cities from before the devils corroded the land, but they were too dilapidated to be used. The pioneers had to build new infrastructures and homes.
Mortals multiplied fast, especially since most families chose to have multiple children and marry early. Within a few thousand years, countless cities popped up like mushrooms. The cities weren’t like the capital, Tenochtitlan, but regular cities. They could be easily destroyed, but they did their job.
The surge of people generated more faith, which was all concentrated in Tenochtitlan. Originally, it would have taken hundreds of thousands of years, if not millions, before the capital could birth a new god, but now, a new city god could be born at any time.
When that happened, the current divine Tenochtitlan would have to select a new name like Tlaloc, but he was more than happy to shed his former name and gain a new one.
But before the Nahui Ollin System could welcome its third divinity, a sudden reversal caught everyone off guard.
When the number of Mictlans dwindled to six, one of them released a towering surge of devilish energy that reached the sky. A dark aura shrouded the entire Nahui Ollin System, and many mortals became infected with madness. Many of them had directly transformed into devils. Land with weak vitality showed signs of turning into devil lairs at any time.
Thankfully, Tlaloc took action and covered the entire world with a protective layer and warded off this devilish influence, but the danger had not yet passed.
For the first time, a divine devil had been born in Nahui Ollin.
