I believe the bride and groom may have intentionally chosen this date because they knew that many guests would be flying in to attend for grandma's bday. It seems like they were aware that not everyone would be able to make multiple trips for both the wedding and their previous trip for grandma. This plan may have been intentional, even if it caused inconvenience for some guests.
