I know I am super late. But I think the part that is a little strange about this to me, is that the picture is for the mom, not the couple. My parents just renewed their vows during the ceremony they had a table with pictures of deceased loved ones, and as me and my siblings walked down the aisle we placed a rose on the table. The reason this was able to be sentimental is because the couple has a personal relationship with the people. I think the couple is conflicted or doesn't want to do it because this is not to commemorate something for them on their day but just to appease the mom. I would try to make her feel special about but idk if I would grant her request.

Agreed! I appreciated Morgan drawing the parallel to pictures of grandparents who’ve passed, however the major difference for me (if I were in the situation of OP/OP’s fiancé) would be I never knew them, had a relationship with them whereas I did know and have a relationship with passed grandparents. If I were to marry my partner, he and I have only one surviving grandparent between the two of us, and he was very close to his, and a “for those no longer with us” table/display would be so nice. We met while I was learning about my mom’s family and I was getting that genealogy I never had growing up, so I feel connected to grandparents I never met. If my mom or his mom wanted to honor stillborn siblings, maybe not pictures but something else with their names? Like little hearts or something to honor family as a whole?

I think the photos would be a bit much but there are so many alternatives to still honor them, but also this poor mom needs therapy her youngest is now old enough for marriage and these babies still seem VERY apparent in her life not that they should ever be forgotten but it seems she may have more healing to do on a deeper level

Also, I do find this to be a bit morbid. I would never take a photo of anyone in their casket and use it at my wedding. I think their names can be stated in the ceremony to memorialize them not being able to be there, but I think the photos plastered in multiple locations is a bit morbid.

NTA at all. at the end of the day, it's her wedding. I do think it's fair to honor them/other lost family member in a memory table, but still up to the actual people getting married.

Also I was thinking...to someone like my mom...the photos would most likely be incredibly triggering...this is such an odd request when you could easily do a table or a memory station for ALL relatives not there instead of making it a whole thing

She’s not the asshole for not wanting pictures. As someone who went through fertility hell and came out with no babies, I couldn’t handle the pictures being there. I did a memory table at ours. There are so many other things you can do
