still going through older episodes and i’m so fascinated by yalls takes on the rental story. because i know you’re good people!! i know you guys worry about being ethical in how you live (wherever you can). so it’s super interesting that you both are so adamant that profiting off your friends in this rental situation is totally fine. they were very sneaky in how they went about it and there’s a reason for that. they were lying by omission, and that’s because they knew it was wrong. justin reiterates many times that “everyone pays for where they live” but op literally isn’t lol? they get to live for free, because they won a genetic lottery and happened to have a rich uncle. i understand that justin’s point is probably just that life is unfair, but shouldn’t we want to make it fair whenever we can? perhaps i’m misunderstanding the story, but unless the uncle would kick op out if op doesn’t bring him profits (which can’t be the case, because the uncle isn’t pocketing the money, op is) there is literally no reason to profit off your friends. landlords are inherently unethical. being a landlord to your friends under false pretences?? absolutely deranged lmfao. there are a lot of right wing and conservative values underpinning the comments defending a person’s right to be a landlord to their friends. if my friend offered for me to rent with them and then i found out they live there for free and pocket every single dollar i give them, i would absolutely move out asap. i would rather pay more to a landlord who is being honest about their greed than one who poses as a friend.

i feel the exact opposite of this, actually so i wanted to share my thoughts (i do understand where your opinion comes from though) . she didnt kick them out, she potentially saved her own grades as well as her friendship with them and their selfish behavior got them into that situation. OP didnt owe them anything and i agree with justin that where she fucked up was sharing her arrangment with her uncle. the friends were happy with the arrangment before and they are not owed free living regardless. in my opinion its a shame her “friends” werent happy for her situation and grateful for the opportunity it gave them. i do think she made an unwise choice in oversharing with them, but not the asshole 🤎

Great episode! Just an FYI (but not a critique of you not knowing this!) Chicken Tikka Masala was first created in the UK in south Asian communities! Potentially in Glasgow, Scotland but the exact origin is unknown. So it is brittish food. It's kinda like how american-chinese food is not the same as chinese food in China, but it was created by chinese immigrants/first generation living in america and has become it's own beautiful type of food.

Okay so Totally agree on the roommate as NTA and everything Justin said. On the total opposite side / long story short, we nicknamed this time in our life as “living in hell house” My roommate “volunteered” to put her name on the lease as the sole renter when my friends and I decided to rent a home together (from someone we don’t know) and she knew the price for the home and was charging us for rent and then lying about utilities to the point that she was making a rather larger profit off of us (upwards of 1.5k+ every month) … took us a bit to start wondering where she was getting all her money from and she staged herself “Uber driving” to try to cover it up in the end when she was caught lol
