Wow, what a story... Both of my children are donor conceived but where I'm from you legally have to tell your children that they're donor conceived (we would have anyway) and even if you didn't, the children are notified by the donor registry when they turn 18 with details of their donor as anonymous sperm donation is illegal. Similar to you saying you don't remember the moment you were told this lie because you were so young, my kids have been told bedtime stories about their donor origin since birth. I found out recently about some biological half siblings for each of them (both different donors) and they'll grow up with access to this information. It breaks my heart how many people aren't told about their donor conception, and how unregulated the industry can be
