No but really, it was always the same parents pulling in late with no heads up. On the rare occasions another parent was late we'd get some kind of communication. It was so disrespectful. Especially because at the time I was a student. They were robbing me of my already very limited study time.

Former daycare worker and now parent. A one time situation that was out of someone’s control is one thing, but 99% of parents who are late are chronically late. It’s just disrespectful of others time at that point. Some places will waive the first one, but after that there needs to be consequences.

100% agree! On top of the fact that the people who have to stay late to keep the school open, have families and lives too. They deserve to be compensated for having to stay late as well.

This may sound cold but I have almost zero sympathy for late fee policies being held up against parents who don’t call/text to let people know they’ll be late for whatever reason, it’s not hard—speaking as a former preschool teacher, they’re honestly an absolute MUST because there’s always going to be someone who is going to take advantage of your time if they can, and if they’re going to? At least get paid for it.

I know the late fees seems harsh, but in Norway kindergartens call cps if you’re late and haven’t let them know, or the third time you’re late regardless of letting them know. It’s always for the child’s protection, and if the kindergarten called cps in this story, the mother might have seen the seriousness earlier.
