ACES and Octane part1 (VIDEO TUTORIAL)

Yesterday Redshift announced that will have by default ACES as its new color space.
I think its really important to understand why and how to use ACES in octane. Tutorials and resources and poor implementations in octane versions so far are kinda limited and often confusing. I was in touch with developers for quite a while to help em implement this better/easier for everyone. Many of us are not colorists or compositors, we just need to work under the best possible conditions in each render engine.
I was surprised seeing a lot of people that couldnt realise that while they work in 32 bit, their sources were actually 8bit. Or not knowing what format to use for exports and why they use that format.
I am also reading all shorts of weird requests about ACES implementations in octane that make no sense and just put extra burden to developers. So instead of trying to explain how color spaces work and all, i decided to simply show you in my way the differences here and why ACES might or might not suit ur workflow.
My point is, think your needs carefully before you change render engines or workflows. A studio with 10 people has different needs from a studio of 2 people. A solo freelancer again has totally different needs. Someone that works in house with someone that works remotely is again a very different story.

A part 2 will follow which is really important cause ACES strength is not in a beauty output but in compositing.

Yea ofc I love it! Ido everything in aces few months now . U can still use LUTs in post with right order of operations. See next tut :)

I have a break now, so I'm attempting to use your tutorials to convert our studio workflow to ACES. Are you still loving it? Does it bother you that you can't use LUTs? Do you sometimes not use ACES so that you can use LUTS?

Well, if u find ur self compositing a lot, I d say use another software than AE that handles 32 bit better natively. I havent use anything but Nuke and that a long time ago so idk what the differences are nowadays. There isnt anything i cant do in AE for my needs so I never looked further. But i have a feeling that Fusion or Davinci are way faster than AE with exr. Is that true?

Extremely helpful. I’ve watched other tutorials, but was left confused. You kept it simple and just explained it in your workflow. Nice to know how to turn it off as well. Good to know difference with Redshift. Looking forward to learning how you render out for AE.

Did you find the After Effects aces workflow intuitive at all? for me it was a maze, converting it back and forth, maybe I did something wrong, will see.

Its crazy good. People that are new to cg, cant realise how easy things become with embedded aces profiles. Rendering is a skill that tends to disappear imo. Everything is setup now for everyone. U dont have to know almost anything to do a solid render within minutes either RS or Octane. Ideas will survive, artists wont :)

I’ve been using aces for months now I love it with food renders it really helps drive a little more realism with its crispness and filmic response
