Going along with Brent's question, do you think JJ / Disney should have divided Rise of Skywalker into 2 films the way Infinity War & Endgame were? Harry Potter also did this with Deathly Hallows. From the looks of it, they probably have enough footage or at least story to make it into a part A and B. Should they add in all of the cut scenes and make it into 2 slower paced movies? I think that could fix a lot of the problems.

I had an interesting discussion with some friends about the comparisons between Rise of Skywalker and Avengers: Endgame. Both are saga-ending films that rely heavily on fan service, yet Rise of Skywalker was critically panned while Endgame was critically celebrated. Why? How does Endgame succeed at its reliance on fan service while Rise of Skywalker—in the eyes of many critics and fans—failed at doing the same?

I've heard a few people/blogs/podcasts talk about newer writers having their main characters "watching" the movie they are meant to be in, or having the movie happen to them. No worries if not, but do you have any thoughts on this, or ways to avoid doing this as a very green screenwriter?

There's a lot out there about openings, but I'm wondering, which movies do you consider to have a perfect ending? I understand that endings are harder to discuss than opening scenes since the reason they work have to do with how the entire story build up to that satisfying moment, but I would love to hear which movie endings you liked the most and, from a screenwriting perspective, why you thought it worked so perfectly.
