Chat Chapter 127 (Got to get some more hobbies)
🕑 Added 2024-09-23 04:31:13 +0000 UTCI stretched in my chair after I got through yet another potion recipe out. It was going to take more time to make all of the recipes but I needed a brake.
The work that I was doing was boring. Like really boring. Like the busiest of busy work. It was slowly driving me mad and it was only my urge for vengeance that had me holding on.
Sure, it was not weeks spent trying to design a nearly impossible potion by listing millions of ingredients but the impossibility of this task was not my problem with it. No, I would say that I was doing these recipes with ease.
My own abilities in potions allowed me to craft the stories that I needed to get started. After the draft was made all that was left was refining work until I was satisfied with the potency of the brew. Fortuna as always hard carried that position but it still took time.
What was irritating was that thousands of minor details I had to edit to get my potion recipe to a proper state.
So making recipes non-stop was frustrating. I knew that I could not keep up my pace even if I wanted to complete this task as fast as I could.
I suppose I should start building the blocks for getting everything back to order. I started to pen a note to Slughorn. The guy was going to be my mouthpiece as far as the world was concerned so I needed to get him on board.
Sure, I could do it myself but if I thought these recipe crafting sessions were busy work then assemblies and speeches were literally hell.
I hesitated over what I should have written but went with a simple request to discuss important things.
Telling him more details about my potion recipes throughout the letter was probably not in my best interest. Sure, it would get the point across but I did kind of miss the guy.
Slughorn was really the only person who Severus Snape ever really respected. In turn, that man was probably the only person who Severus craved praise from. At least in the field of potions that is. The sheer skill that Slughorn was capable of outputting was something that Severus admired over anything else.
So watching his face light up as I present more and more of my discoveries to him would be a pleasant experience for me. I did not need the praise from him but it would certainly feel nice.
I called Mimpsy to take the letter and deliver it to Slughorn. As always the excitable little elf was more than happy to do my chores for me. I also got the distinct impression that he would rather do other chores but he would take what he could get.
So as the little elf delivered my letter to the professor I had some free time to kill. I took a long look at the list of recipes that I had prepared and was thinking about starting another but shook off that thought.
I was going to take a break from all this as I was afraid my brain would overload from the mundane reality of it all.
I contemplated on what to do but I didn't really have a lot going on in my life other than my pursuit of vengeance and trying to be more powerful. I mean potion making could certainly be classified as a hobby and it was certainly something that sang such beautiful songs to me but I was trying to avoid it in this moment.
So trying to go off on another potion making bender was not going to alleviate the headache that was building up. Other than that I didn't really have anything else to claim as my own and that thought bothered me.
A person should have more hobbies and interests than a single field even if that field was something that fascinated them. Then again I knew I was not exactly the most mentally sound of individuals so my lack of diversity in interests was to be expected.
Should I take a knitting or something? It would allow me to pass the time and I suppose the product of my own hobby would be interesting to deal with. But the notion of starting knitting of all things does not sound that entertaining.
I let out a loud huff in the empty room and spun in my chair. I suppose the sheer repeating motions of making potions lately have been bugging me if even my favorite thing was causing me distress.
Maybe it wasn't a lack of Interest that was the real problem but me shutting away everyone as I focused in on something in such hyper fixation.
Ashley knew that I was rather preoccupied in the moment so she has been leaving me to do what I wanted for the past couple of days. I knew it was only a matter of time before she dragged me away to distract me from all of this but I actually felt the need to meet her before she showed up.
This was a surprising turn of events as Ashley was usually the one who was impatient in these scenarios. I guess I have been spending far too much time in my lab to be happy about seeing it this often. As unlikely a statement as that is to make.
I suppose it was not just about Ashley being in my life either. I did have other friends that I could reach out to to distract me from my current predicament. Narcissa was sadly off of that list as it was proven to be a complicated subject for me. As crazy as it is to say Lily managed to worm her way back onto that list if only for her connections to her family.
But she's been looking at me like a puppy that has had her owner robbed from her so I was trying to lower the amount of time I spent with her.
There was always the chat group as their presence was always just a moment away. I just felt a little odd reaching out to them right now. I had always joined in on other conversations instead of initiating ones of my own. But we all had to learn baby steps eventually.
[Overdramatic Fool: Waiting for a response to a letter and feeling rather uneasy. What has everyone else been up to?]
[Khajit Has Information If You Have Coin: A letter? Honestly Prince I know you got this magic thing going on but is your society really that backwards?]
[Grade A Bottom: Is that a sacrifice to the old gods for your unholy power of summoning birds? The binding vow to never touch a cellphone?]
[I Was A Hunter But I Took An Arrow To The Heel: He truly does have a power beyond mortal comprehension. Waiting around for a letter might be a high cost but the terror he can unleash is truly frightful.]
[Overdramatic Fool: I’m not a technophobe who fears all forms of modern convenience nor did I sign a pack with the devil to have my awesome power.]
[Khajit Has Information If You Have Coin: Of course, you did not sign a pack with the devil Rias-san would have told us if you did but the old gods are still an option. Pretty sure Cthulhu hates modern technology as raving lunatics don’t text people]
[Overdramatic Fool: You have been online before right? Are you telling me that it’s not filled with raving lunatics!?]

[Overdramatic Fool: They are doing a rather poor job at it as well. I can use a cellphone but I am mailing a letter to my professor and he lives in a magical society which doesn’t really bother with anything electric]

[Overdramatic Fool: Ouch, really feeling the trust Argo. I barely talk in the chat group Izumi-san is saved from my calculations.]
[Grade A Bottom:......We are part of a multiversal chat group…..so Chthulu could be real and one of his followers might join the group...Or the next mission might have to face them!!]

[Overdramatic Fool: Thanks, really need something to distract me right now. Making all these recipes were really boring and it was driving me up the wall. And yeah I can kick a raving lunatic out of the group if they join but my luck should keep those people out for the most part as well.]

[NTR Victim:Meh, everything and anything is out there so there is no point in worrying about every little thing.]

I sent out my message with the full intention of fulfilling my bargain. I was feeling a little stir crazy and a night just talking and hanging out with Ashley would do me some wonders.
The chat is always interesting even if we did wind up on a rather odd tangent. I never thought of the possibilities of the old Gods coming into our lives through the chat group and its capabilities but it was certainly possible.
Fortuna would most likely make sure those things never came within spitting distance of the chat group but it was still possible. So I should increase my abilities in power as quickly as possible. If only to reassure my own state of mind.
Rias still seems rather busy on her training journey with her brother but that was to be expected. She sends chat messages every once in a while but for the most part, she has been training every single day of every single hour.
A respectable effort even if I did miss talking to the girl. Yeah my relationship with her was going to be more complicated than it was but that was the price I had to pay.
My house self came back with a response to the letter that I sent to Slughorn. As expected he was more than happy to meet me but there was an undertone of concern and worry in the letter. It was only as I was reading it that I remembered that I left Hogwarts without telling a single soul.
I skipped out on my final exams and basically went off the grid for the past couple of weeks. So Slughorn’s concern over my whereabouts and what I was doing was well-founded. Sure he masked his intent rather well in the letter but the undertone was still there.
I was sure he was going to leave any true grillings and questions about what I was doing until he could see me face to face but that worked out for what I was planning. Sure I might have to field some questions but for the most part I was not afraid of the consequences of what I've done.
Still, as I looked over the letter waiting for my response I hesitated as I wanted to get this done as quickly as possible. At the same time I had promised Ashley a nice quiet night between the both of us. I let out aside before riding out a response for Slughorn to meet me tomorrow inside Diagon Alley.
Vengeance can wait I was not going to break a date with my girlfriend.
