BONUS! - Homer in Ghost Costume
🕑 Added 2023-10-31 09:00:02 +0000 UTCThis is only the 16th episode of the show, so I can understand there being some trepidation in breaking format so brazenly for this unique idea. In order to ensure that this episode still works within the world and continuity of the show, the framing device of the stories being told by the children on Halloween is added, and it's easy to forget that this is where the name of the episode comes from. Later Treehouse of Horror episodes drop the framing device conceit, as tradition is cemented and the show trusts audiences to buy into the idea of non-canon stories.
One fun thing that these framing devices allow for is a brief exploration of how the family celebrate Halloween, including what costumes they choose to don. This is ideal for a project like this, where we get to occasionally document alternate appearances of popular characters, but sadly there's not much of it in this episode - only Homer's particularly low-effort outfit.
Nonetheless, I'm grateful that it gave me the opportunity to post something actually from a Halloween episode ON Halloween, as the stars may never align this perfectly again. HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE! DON'T GET CURSED OR BOILED OR WHATEVER!

Oh yeah absolutely - big difference between non-canon Jack-in-the-box/Robot/two-headed-with-Burns Homers in ToH2 and 'normal-but-holding-the-monkey's-paw' Homer (though Homer with smuggled goods taped to his torso earlier in the segment is a funny concept at least. In Bad Dream House the only real variation is when the family are wearing their pyjamas, which isn't even specific to this segment.

Yeah, see, this is where things get messy (as if they haven't been messy for 2+ years). We'll play it by ear I suppose, but the Raven segment will be the first chance to explore this. Technically the Homer in "Bad Dream House" is non-canon, separate from the Homer of "Simpson and Delilah", but it's no fun to just cover normal Homer again, so we'll see as we go! I like that you're thinking about it though! :)

'This is ideal for a project like this, where we get to occasionally document alternate appearances of popular characters, but sadly there's not much of it in this episode - only Homer's particularly low-effort outfit.' - I watched the episode last night (along with 2, 3 and 4) and was wondering if you'd count characters from segments like The Raven as 'new' characters or variants. Homer as the narrator, Bart as the Raven, plus the line-less Marge as Lenore and Lisa + Maggie as seraphim... Unlike the first two segments they're all standing in for different characters to themselves. I think the Raven himself is most arguably a separate character (distinctly different in appearance, has a name and lines), but would that same logic roll over to King Homer? I expect you'll draw them all anyway because you do like to treat us with the bonus characters/costumes.
