I think your tiers are a little borked right now. I can access 29/30 but not 26-28

Abraham Carson

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback! Yeah, I can see it being strange that he's talking about engineering all of a sudden.the way I see it, he's finally had a chance to relax and settle down. So we're going to see more of his passions. As for the dialogue, I'm open to any feedback. I'm usually pretty anal about making sure I have pretty good, believable dialogue.

Hm. Lots of thoughts, now that we’re getting to the meat of the book. I like the story so far! As I’ve reached the limit of chapters currently accessible, I’ll try to formulate my thoughts here on how the story’s going, and what I like and don’t like about it. I hope this is helpful and doesn’t come off as entitled or anything! Honestly just wanted to post my thoughts into the void. You have a really interesting world. The many unique critters we’ve seen so far, the tethers, Meldohv Syredel, and so much more draw the reader in. There are many interesting ideas that frame the story, which really helps the overall book. Vincent himself has an interesting hook - his history of mental issues. I can’t comment on whether the descriptions of schizophrenia are accurate or not, but it’s interesting to read about while keeping in mind that it may not be 100% accurate (which it may well be! I just don’t know, and Vincent’s experiences and reactions are so far away from my own that it’s difficult to relate regardless). I do cringe a bit sometimes at people writing characters that go ‘it’s only another type of engineering problem!’ when talking about something like politics (or else). It feels like either Vincent himself or you as the writer have made his engineering background a large part of his personality. It does happen on occasion, and is not too unbelievable in Vincent’s case (as he’s poured so much into making his degree happen), but it does dispel my suspension of disbelief somewhat, personally. I really like the setup with Vincent’s arrival, and his struggles in his new body. Transformation is a soft spot for me, and especially the psychological and cultural sides of it. I have to commend you for not handwaving it away, and diving into it quite a lot. The biggest thing bothering me is the dialogue. I keep coming back to the dialogue and feeling like there’s something off about it. Maybe it’s the character voices, maybe it’s something about how you structure action and dialogue. I can’t pin it down, but it feels like you need to find that magic combination and the work will make a quantum leap in how well it reads. Overall, looking forward to how this develops!
