in sight of the shrike - sound library list
🕑 Added 2023-10-08 02:21:41 +0000 UTChere's a list of the sound libraries I used for the 'in sight of the shrike' project because I think they all sound amazing and are worth sharing
KEYS:
Unplugged 200A (free)
this is the Wurlitzer sound used for the first song 'a morning with bulbuls'. since it's 'unplugged', it doesn't have the usual Wurli sound you'd imagine but instead has this very soft & natural tone, almost like a toy piano. but bigger. love it.
The Hoffman (free)
this is the piano sound used in all 4 songs. it's not the most versatile sounding piano since it's pretty saturated in the mids (I think) but it definitely has a character and works super well in the right applications. it sounds ok as mono (the default state) but it REALLY starts to shine when you crank up the stereo field knob.
VOCALS:
The Spellsinger (free)
this is the choir library used for three of the songs, and the recording quality of this library is truly amazing to say the least. it even has three articulations which is insane for a free sample library. it's honestly better than some of the paid stuff out there. ya.
BRASS/WINDS:
Whisper (paid, £129)
yes this is a paid instrument, but I'd still recommend it because it has a soft indie folk texture I can find in no other. I used the wind ensemble preset for the 'October' song and it layered perfectly with my string recordings. Highly recommend if you're into making bon iver type stuff.
GUITAR/STRING:
Hearth & Hollow (free or paid)
another library from the talented hunter rogerson (also the creator of The Spellsinger) and this is also another bon iver-type indie ensemble instrument featuring instruments like a banjo and dulcimer. simply listen to the demo tracks yourself and there's no way you won't fall in love with it (I hope). you'll hear this library doing the main chord progression in the 'triticum' track. I used the lite version of the library but you can upgrade to a paid version if you'd like to tweak your sound more.
