Introduction Stage The One Who Endures
.
Adult socializing can be a hassle.
"What's the matter, Kido, you haven't had a drink"
The beer is added to the large mug that is still more than half full.
With a half smile on my face, I looked at my boss as he poured me another beer. He was a typical drunken old man with a red face and slightly vacant eyes.
"No manners today, drink!"
"I'll have it……"
I will definitely drink up the sake that my boss pours for me. I cannot refuse to do so.
I'd like to think how many centuries ago this code was established, but our company, especially our superiors, loved it.
I had to drink up, or I would see him mumbling to me at work.
So I drink it all down in one gulp.
"Thanks for the meal"
Just as I said that, beer is poured again. This is the third time.
"Good! Show them what working people are made of!"
"Hahaha! Kido-kun, you're not bad!"
(Screw you, old men)
With a half smile on my face, I spit ill of them inwardly.
April is spring, the time for welcoming parties to welcome new workers and new employees. What did you think? Our company has prepared a hanamiparty. (TLN: cherry-blossom viewing)
Maybe they are trying to say that it is a problem-free environment to drink alcohol in the daytime, but I wonder if they don't realize that all this foolishness is hurting the eyes of those around them?
The new employees, who are welcome to join the company, are also surprised.
(Haa... well, I'll take care of the booze and the new employees won't get crushed.)
It is the duty of seniors to protect young people like newborn foals from this kind of prehistoric alcohol-harassment. No one helped me when I joined the company, though.
I look back over the past twenty-nine years as my bosses tangle with me over drinks.
I studied as my parents told me to, got into the school they told me to, and got into this company as my parents told me to.
And here I am. I was pushed hard because the company was well-known in the area and must be a good company, according to them.
Our company is not a so-called black company... Or so I thought.
The boss is a bit bossy, all he does is talk, and when I ask him for instructions, all I get is complaints, and I'm getting rave reviews from the alcohol-harassment, but they probably aren't black. Because they are not certified as a black company.
Anyway, it's just an ordinary company like any other. It makes me cry.
(Salary is good, the salary is. Other than that, it's the worst here)
My parents are old-fashioned anyway, and all a person needs to survive is an education and a steady paycheck.
They were the type of people who dismissed all other forms of entertainment as completely unnecessary.
Ah~, indeed. That is absolutely right. I think it's a perfect life plan, without a single flaw.
It's like a machine with no freedom in life.
(I understand that, but)
I wanted to be more free, to live my own life.
'Then why don't you do it,' I am often told that. I think that's a good argument, and I agree with it.
But the most I could do was to hide from my parents and play anime and video games. It was a secret pleasure, and somehow I had compromised with that. I thought I could endure it as long as I had that pleasure.
It is a strange thing about people, once they continue to act of dragging, they are unable to moving on.
It is also called giving up. So they become despondent that nothing will change anyway.
Above all, I am already 29. Next year I will be 30. I don't have the will to go that far.
At least, not for me unless there's some big trigger.
"Oh yeah, Kido-kun! I heard you were good at climbing trees!
"Eh?"
I almost spewed out my drink at the sudden unreasonable demand.
What, suddenly. Climbing a tree? I'm not really good at it.
"Eh, no, I'm not really..."
"You were good at that, eh? Come on, you gotta show them what a senior can do!"
"No, a little...! It's bad, that kind of thing is prohibited..."
"Kido-kun, when we were young, we did everything. That's how we acquired social skills."
It's a theory I've never heard of.
"Kido-kun"
The supervisor clearly lowers his voice tone and threatens me.
Damn, if I refuse, the new employees might get hurt.
"Ah, yes, yes! That's right, you know it well! I am Kido Otowa, a man who longed to be a ninja as a child and was also called a tree-climbing master! Now let me show you the art of tree climbing!"
Eei, self-abandonment.
I take off my jacket and leap to the cherry tree. Surprisingly, it is an easy tree to climb. I might be able to make it up there.
"Ha ha ha! How do you think about my skill――"
At that moment, I felt my arms suddenly weaken.
Apparently, more alcohol was circulating throughout my body than I thought.
"Ah, this is bad"
The moment of falling was strangely calm.
For some reason, the surroundings appear as if in slow motion.
And I...
