Chapter 1 "I Want to Be Happy"
.
Part 1
A room in a small apartment.
"Please give it back! That's the money I prepared for my daughter!"
A woman, her hair disheveled, was clinging to the man's waist.
The man has blonde long hair, but the roots are darker because he hasn't dyed it in months.
He has a stubble beard, and due to his unhygienic lifestyle, his cheeks are thin and pale, and above all, his face is rugged.
The man is holding an envelope with money in it.
"I'm telling you I'm going to double it and pay you back. Now the wave is coming."
The man is addicted to gambling and was spending all the money since this morning.
When he ran out of money and came back, he found an envelope that the woman had hidden and was trying to take it out.
The woman resists desperately.
"Today is a celebration for her, so please don't take that money with you."
The crying woman who clung to him had one child.
She is not a child of the man she is currently dating, and her parents are taking care of her.
She only gets to see her daughter a few times a month, and today was the day.
The money was prepared for her daughter's celebration.
The woman is looking forward to this day, but the situation changes when her boyfriend enters her room with a duplicate key.
He used to not be like this.
When they started dating, he was motivated.
He worked hard to pursue his dream, but somehow he began to spend his days gambling and spending money every day.
The man's face gradually turns red as the woman does not let go.
Blood rushes to his head and he clenches his hands.
He swung as hard as he could at the woman and hit her directly in the head.
The woman is blown toward the wall by the attack of the man.
Unfortunately, however, the woman's head hits a pillar.
The woman holding the back of her head with both hands groans.
"!?"
A trail of blood formed on the pillar, and the man was flustered when he saw it.
But this is not the first time he has been violent.
He shoved the money into his pocket and raised his voice, thinking it would be okay anyway.
"I-It's because you disobeyed me! You ought to reflect on that."
The man leaves the room as if to escape, and seconds after the door closes, footsteps can be heard heading down the stairs.
The woman managed to raise her upper body and lean against the wall, but blood was flowing from a wound on her head.
Feeling lightheaded, she searches for her phone to call for help, but her body won't move.
She couldn't even reach her phone, which was a few meters away.
"——Ah, I guess this is no good. I may not be able to make it to today's celebration"
She has been waiting for weeks to meet her daughter, but apparently this time it is not possible.
The woman thinks about what to say to her daughter to apologize.
However, along the way, she begins to worry about her current situation.
"How did it come to this? The old days were good. I lived at home, had a family, went to college, went abroad with friends——"
The woman recalls her last trip abroad, and the tears she had been holding back from the pain begin to spill.
Memories of that time come back.
"Why——Why did you die, onii-chan?"
The major turning point in her life came, without a doubt, because of the death of her big brother.
During her college years, the woman traveled abroad with friends.
Since she did not have a part-time job at the time, she used the money she received for her qualification to pay for the expenses.
She thought it was bad, but figured she could pay it back later by taking a part-time job.
She enjoyed traveling abroad, tricking her parents into thinking she was traveling domestically with friends.
But her parents found it out and were terribly angry.
Because of the frequent messages she received, the woman blocked her parents, for enjoying the trip.
"Haha——If only I hadn't blocked them at the time —— would I be better off than I am now?"
Will her parents and brother give her a scolding when she gets back? Let's buy more souvenirs and go home and be good manners for a while —— At first she thought that was the extent of it.
But at the time, she felt a strange unease in her chest. She was having a great time traveling abroad with her friends and was trying to convince herself that it must have been just her mind.
When she returned from her trip abroad, she recalls receiving several messages from her parents the moment she unblocked them.
The message from her parents was the news that her "brother had died" some time ago.
Too shocked to be surprised, her friends who were with her called out to her with concern.
From there, she doesn't remember much more.
The next thing she realized, she was in the middle of her brother's funeral.
The cremation was over when she arrived, and her relatives and participants wondered why she, as his younger sister, had arrived so late.
By now, the funeral was almost over —— but the woman couldn't bring herself to cry.
"I couldn't cry even though my big brother died —— He was fine a few days ago, and the next time I see him, normally you wouldn't think he'd be just bone."
When everything was over and it was just the family, her parents asked her to tell them everything that had happened.
Not yelling, not crying, just blaming her for lying to them so nonchalantly and for not being able to be reached no matter how many times they tried to contact her.
Lies to her parents, lies about her brother —— at the moment, the woman lost the trust of her family.
It was raining that day, but the woman was knocked out of the house without question by her parents.
Even her father, who had a soft heart for his daughter, did not help her that day.
In the falling rain, realizing for the first time that her brother had died, the woman was sad and started to cry.
From there, the woman thinks her life has taken a turn for the worse.
After dropping out of college, the woman stepped into the nightlife to survive.
She seemed to have talent, and soon she was making a lot of money. However, the men who approached her were all a bunch of jerks.
A man who is after money.
A man who repeatedly cheats.
One man ran away after she had a child and did not take responsibility for it.
She was raising her daughter alone, but by then her health was failing and she was no longer able to earn money.
She relied on her parents at the time, but after seeing the woman's situation and her daughter —— Her parents said they wouldn't trust her with their grandchildren from their point of view.
Since then, she lives apart from her daughter.
"Why doesn't everything go well? In the past, it was more——"
When she was a child, everything she did was going well.
What she had then and doesn't have now —— she can only think of one thing.
It's her brother who died.
"I'm an idiot, but "aniki" is an idiot too. No one told you to overdo it."
The woman intended to be spoiled by her brother.
Before heading to the airport, she stopped by her brother's apartment to get some pocket money and push the game.
It was a game she had been looking forward to before its release, but when she played it, she remembers how angry she was at the mysterious specifications that made it impossible to clear the game.
When she pushed him to clear such a game, the woman did not expect him to stay up all night to clear it.
"Idiot aniki, why did you die?"
Out of the corner of her eye, she sees a dusty video game console and a software case.
The console, which she hadn't touched in years, contained software that was the third Otome game at that time.
The USB flash drive she gave to her brother is also lying on the side.
As promised, the data was included with a full complete.
The woman's vision blurs as she remembers her brother's strangely obedient behavior.
It became painful to stand against the wall, and her upper body collapsed to the floor.
"Wait. I can't die yet. I haven't been forgiven by mom and dad. Also, I haven't seen my daughter. ——I want to see her."
Gradually she feels her life is coming to an end.
Her fear grows and she tries to reach for her phone again, but her body doesn't move as much as she would like.
Gradually the fear fades and a sense of giving up grows stronger.
At that moment, the woman mutters her last words.
"Help me——onii-chan."
Her last wish was to help from her brother, who is no longer in this world.
.
Part 2
In the forest at the foot of the mountain, the snow had fallen and all the leaves had fallen off the trees.
In such a forest, where there is not even a road like a road, a little girl dressed in fur is walking.
On her back is a large rifle disproportionate to her body.
The snow is about ten centimeters deep, maybe?
While walking is a challenge, the little girl is breathing on her shoulders.
As she exhaled white breath, she felt the cold air enter her lungs and rob her of her body heat.
"Over here ...... there is over here!"
Relying on the faint sound of a voice, she headed toward it, only to find the beast caught in a trap.
The beast, which she had never seen in her previous life, looked like a bear.
What differentiates it from a bear would be its lion-like mane.
The little girl immediately grabs the rifle on her back and loads the bullets.
Holding up an old single-shot rifle, she lowered her hips and pulled the trigger.
But the beast also notices something unusual and moves its body. This caused her to miss the vital point.
The little girl mutters in annoyance.
"Even though I don't like to spend multiple rounds!"
Eject the cartridge, load the next bullet and be ready.
Red blood was splattered on the white snow around the beast, which bled from its wounds.
As the large beast rampages around, the trees to which the traps were tied begin to make an unpleasant, creaking sound.
"Are you kidding me?!"
Taken by surprise, her aim was a little off, and she again failed to hit the vital spot.
The tree breaks and the beast runs toward the little girl.
The little girl ejected the shell casing and loaded the bullet as she ran.
Sensing the presence of a beast approaching just behind her, she turns to see a figure with a large mouth open.
BANG! The sound of firing echoed around the area.
This time she shot the beast in the head, but it was still moving, albeit unsteadily.
The little girl looks at a thick branch nearby.
She picked it up and held it in both hands —— and swung it down on the beast with all her might.
.
Part 3
Night.
The little girl was in a mountain cabin.
The little girl checking the fur of the dismantled beast takes off her hat to reveal her beautiful voluminous blonde hair.
The hair itself was shaggy because it was not properly arranged, but the hair itself was shiny.
The little girl, putting down the fur, approaches the table and picks up a notebook.
It is a notebook in which she wrote down her memories of her previous life.
The day she realized she had been reincarnated into this world, she wrote down as much knowledge as she could remember.
The girl looking at the calendar confirms that the school's entrance ceremony is coming up soon.
"I have less than two months before I enter the academy."
She looked in an old mirror in the cabin and saw herself standing there, looking very young for her age.
Her name is [Marie Fou Lafan].
She is a woman who was reincarnated from modern Japan.
However, unlike normal reincarnation —— this world is "That otome game world" that she knows.
Marie notices an injury on her right cheek in the mirror.
It was probably gotten during a death struggle against the beast.
When Marie puts her right hand on her right cheek, it emits a faint light.
It is a magic light.
It is the rare and valuable light of healing magic.
When she pulled her right hand away, the wound was gone.
"What a surprise! It's worth all the hard work I've put into learning it over the last ten years."
In this world, everyone can use magic if they learn it.
However, only healing magic's circumstances is different.
In addition to inborn talent, a certain amount of effort was essential to learn it.
The user of healing magic is valuable, and is privileged for that reason alone.
It's not magic that everyone can use.
Marie took time every day since her reincarnation to learn such magic.
That's the kind of magic that comes from bloody hard work.
Marie looks in the mirror and checks her appearance.
"I-I think I look cute, but I still look so young compared to my previous life. In a previous life, I think I looked much bigger at this age."
There is a limit to what can be said to be small and cute.
The current Marie looked young for a fifteen-year-old.
She is short and lacks feminine bulges.
Fortunately, her face is well-defined and her blonde hair will be even shinier than it is now if she polishes it.
She saw her reflection in her blue eyes, but her expression was grim.
"My previous life was terrible, but this life really sucks too. Why do I have to suffer so much when I was born the daughter of a nobleman?"
The cause of death in Marie's previous life was the domestic violence of her boyfriend, whom she was dating.
And in this life, she was born into a noble family, the Viscount Lafan.
Hearing this much, one might think that she is happy because she was born into a noble family.
However, Viscount Lafan had a big problem.
As a noble family, they are proud of their position and are in debt in order to maintain their lifestyle.
——Marie hates debt.
That is because she has struggled many times with the debts created by her boyfriends in her previous life.
Anyway, Viscount Lafan was a family that handled money in a messy way.
In addition, what is worse is the treatment of the youngest daughter, Marie.
Her older brothers and sisters live a life of luxury in the castle. However, because of the lack of servants, Marie, the youngest daughter, was treated the same as a servant.
She was given a job and forced to take care of her family.
No food is given to satisfy her, and no money can be spent freely.
The reason Marie is in the forest carrying a hunting rifle is to get food and money.
She eats the meat she gets and sells the pelts and other items to earn money.
It was not something that a daughter of a noble family would do, but she had to do this to survive.
"Why do I have to go through all this trouble in "that otome game world" full of dreams and hopes? Because I'm not the main character? Because I'm just another mob?"
What angers her from the bottom of her heart is that the protagonist is the one who finds happiness in this world.
If this world is that otome game world as Marie predicted, the protagonist's happiness is guaranteed.
The default name of the protagonist is [Olivia].
For the protagonist of a otome game, she was a character with large breasts that seemed to be aimed at male audiences.
Furthermore, the dialogue in the work is terrible.
When war broke out, she would just say a righteous argument, "You shouldn't fight," but she would not offer a solution, which made Marie frustrated when she played.
Marie still remembers how she became even angrier and disliked the game, partly because she couldn't complete it.
Marie recalls the event images and videos she was able to see thanks to her brother's efforts to clear them.
The protagonist and captured targets were shown to be happy.
Marie had a wicked smile on her face in front of the mirror.
"Don't you think I have the right to be happy? Hey, Olivia."
She holds a notebook in her hand in which is written the information of the capturing strategy.
"It's fate, isn't it, to be able to enter the school as a classmate of the protagonist-sama?"
Using game knowledge, this time she will make herself to be happy.
That was Marie's goal.
Marie averted her gaze from the mirror and muttered.
"——I'm going to get happiness this time."
