This is the first "dungeon " world in this book. The position that Liz was is so ridiculous I didn't process it on first reading. LOL , a clingy piggyback hug that definitely didn't happen.

As for motivations, for Elizabeth is driven by greed. Impatience. She doesn't want to wait a century for power. The decision to head North perhaps a bit prematurely was also made right after a near death experience, so it might not have been the most logical. All of that is amplified by her pride - she cannot admit to a sunk cost fallacy, nor envision herself failing. I felt like I managed to portray that decently well, so I wonder if it's the effect of weekly releases or fault with my characterization that got you a different impression. As for Irwin, a big part of his motivations is definitely being driven by Elizabeth dragging him along. On the other hand, he also desires power for safety sooner rather than later, but not with the same hunger. At the same time, and I know I have probably not conveyed that the best, there is definitely an impulse from his past life driving him to reclaim the power needed to properly battle the Rot. As for the "ultimate" power up, the characters will not spontaneously become omnipotent. After all, if those fragments were truly unrivalled in power they would have been put to a different use by the brothers. I have a plan for the books after this and how they will scale their power during those. In fact, I have basically everything major until the ending planned after this arc and their power is accounted for. In my while writing career 90+% of my word count is stories about powerful Macs so I have studied the pitfalls extensively and try to avoid it subvert them. As for keeping up... They are not, except for Elizabeth. You may have noticed there are more secrets to her background I have hinted at. For the last long while the rest of the group had been acting as specialists that distinctly have not been actually keeping up with the two of them, retaining usefulness by filling gaps. I definitely don't have plans for Alice or Desir to catch up in a century's time.

Hey Sarva, Thanks so much for the wonderful story. I know it can be tough for authors to read criticism of their work, but I wanted to share a few thoughts that came to mind. I’m hoping to keep things objective—and of course, it’s entirely possible that I’ve misunderstood something or that my perspective is simply off. Right now, I find myself struggling to understand the MC’s motivations. He and Elizabeth seem to have so much potential for growth together—so why aren’t they just settling down somewhere safe to cultivate their powers? They’re not currently being hunted, there’s no immediate external pressure, and yet they’re risking their lives traveling through largely unknown territory. It feels unnecessary, or at least unstrategic. Also, I’m curious about your decision to give them what’s essentially the ultimate power-up—some kind of heritage or latent potential from arguably the most powerful being to have ever lived—at this stage in the story. It feels like the kind of reveal or gift you’d expect just before the final arc, the ultimate boost before the climax. But here, it's being given to characters who are still, in many ways, children with plenty of room for natural growth. It seems premature. I think the core issue—one that many authors run into with powerful main characters—is this: how can the rest of the cast keep up? With Irwyn’s background, the answer should probably be, quite simply: they can’t. And that’s okay. But instead, it feels like Elizabeth and others keep getting stacked with one boon after another—lucky finds, exotic backgrounds, and so on—in what seems like a desperate attempt to keep pace with Irwyn. It’s starting to feel artificial, even unbelievable. Honestly, what they’re doing right now doesn’t feel like it’s really about Irwyn at all—it feels like just the latest attempt to power Elizabeth up. What do you think? Did I completely misread things, or is there some truth to this perspective?
