They sealed them off from the surface, loaded them with ice from the poles and from the Lunar regolith, created a network of mirrors to redirect sunlight into the tube networks, bioengineered super algae to produce a breathable environment along with other terraforming methods, kept going with introducing more and more elements to make it liveable and eventually after a hundred or so years, the project was complete!

A mate of mine was actually involved in a Manila startup to put coffin-style living spaces together, like in Neuromancer, a few years ago after call centre agents started to need to travel from provincial suburbs into the city for jobs that started at 2AM. Tried to address the massive public transportation, safety, and rent/housing issue all at once. It didn't take off, unfortunately, but I could see people opting for this, or something smaller, out of cost, convenience and safety.

The Psionics in Humanity Lost are an in-universe phenomenon which blends various ideas within the realms of metaphysics and physics. It can be partially explained by real world phenomena, but ultimately it goes beyond our modern understanding. It is based upon fields such as Electroencephalography, whereby brainwaves can be measured in the form of voltage fluctuation through electrodes placed outside of the skull, These voltage fluctuations result from ionic current within the neurons of the brain. This is one example of the extra-cranial mind and this is just one way of measuring brain activity outside of the skull. There is surely a myriad of ways of measuring this that are currently beyond our understanding. There are also various companies and research institutes working on developing robotic prosthetics that can be controlled by a user without the need for a neural implant. This also utilises extra-cranial brainwaves. Essentially what I’m getting at using loose terms is, your mind is not confined to your head. You have an aura around you, that much is clear, it is even measurable through scientific methods. It is sheer hubris for us to think that we, through modern science, can understand everything about human consciousness and dare I say… the soul or spirit. Here, we enter into the realm of the unknown and possibly, the unknowable. What psionics are in Humanity Lost are the mind/spirit being cast out from the being of emanation across space. Because of this, psionics can get around the universal speed limit of 299,792,458 meters per second. Only massless particles such as photons, which make up light, can travel at that speed, but Psionics can pass even that. The only beings that are capable of high level psionics in Humanity Lost are the Overfathers and the species known as the tandrax. Though, this ability did not occur naturally in them. They are both enhanced biologically altered life forms. Meaning the psionics you see in the story are the result of technology enhancing a naturally occurring phenomena. That’s why Losté is able to receive psionic messages from deicide, but not send them. Because psionics are the natural emanation of the mind. You can call psionics metaphysical, mystical or even extra-physical. But at the end of the day, it is not entirely impossible, at least not within the Humanity Lost Universe. I get where you’re coming from though, a lot of people came here for the speculative evolution side of things and they’re getting all this extra woo-woo psychic stuff, but this is just the way I wanted to write my universe you know? Thanks for the question! 😁

Beat you again Callum. Overfathers are designed by All-Mother herself, the AI that controls the Imperium. The Overfathers are clones, but they are are way superior to the conventional trooper since they have telekinesis and other wibbly wobbly telepathic stuff. They have no reproductive organs whatsoever, and no gender or sex. They are human clones, but a bunch of foreign DNA has been mixed in to create the most superior form of humanity possible, in All-Mother’s eyes at least. This goes for all Imperium troopers, and vehicles. They are all home grown humans in some way, but there is technology in the mix, e.g with the the turrets on the Imperium Breachers or Anomalocaris for example (see pages 108-116). Hope this answers your questions.
