You wake in a slow wave, your senses coming to before you even consider opening your eyes. It's a gentle awakening, something you aren't used to; usually, it's an alarm clock or Bug's poking.
But the darkness of your room is only interrupted by a shadow slipping into the bed with you.
Nadia smells like her usual self -antiseptic and linen- but there's a slight hint of fragrance on her neck. It blossoms between you when she molds her front to yours.
Apple and clove. The perfume oil you secretly bought for her.
"Hey," you whisper, voice a little rough. Your fingers slide over her bare skin, not hesitating on the raised skin of old scars. You know her body almost as well as your own - nothing about it startles you anymore.
"Hi," she replies, a soft kiss finding your jaw. She slides one hand under your neck; the other caresses your jaw, your nape. "I'm late."
There's no apology because apologies are useless. You knew how hard this would be when you started it.
"Late is better than never," you say, nuzzling her cheek with your nose. "Bug and I made you something. We left it on the table."
"I saw," she hums, lips dragging from your cheek to mouth, words whispered between kisses. "Peanut butter cookies."
"Your favorite."
"Mmhmm," she agrees, but the sound is distracted - she's too focused on how your tongue flicks against her lower lip.
"How long do we have?" you ask, voice a helpless whine when her hand slips under your pajama bottoms.
"...Lets not dwell," she says instead of what you both know she means.
Not long enough. Not anywhere close.
