Peter Davison is David's father-in-law, and the line "you were my doctor" which gave you chills is because that was genuinely David's reaction, Peter was the doctor he grew up with

You really need to watch some Classic Who from time to time. I'm not suggesting you watch all of it, just some select stories. I strongly recommend you watch "Genesis of the Daleks" as soon as you can.

Btw the meromiam at the end of the episode was for Verity Lambert, aka one of the original creators of Doctor who. Probably the one who had the biggest hand in making this entire series all the way back in the 60’s. Astrid’s death was definitely a parallel’s to her’s. “You’re not falling Verity, you’re flying.”
