thanks for being here <3

Thank you for the equally thoughtful response. In fairness to myself, though, you guys are being extremely clear in these commentaries about what your intentions are, what you're saying is very well communicated (which is another thing I really appreciate about you compared to the previous team), so I don't need to interpret the text of the story, here. I don't see how future exploration of motivation or character could change how direct and unambiguous Miles is being here, not only about what Rose is thinking and is motivated by, but about the fact that in your conception of things Ult-Dirk isn't a liar, that he's objectively correct in his understanding of Homestuck's reality. If that's the case, then your understanding of the Epilogues is so far diverged from mine that I legitimately don't know what story you're telling here at all. I probably sound very harsh, and I apologize for that. All of that said, I am also extremely militant about being patient with serial stories, and that a story should only be judged in its totality, not one update at a time (an opinion I know that Andrew also holds strongly). So I feel very conflicted about this. I'll think about it. Thank you again for responding.

First off, thank you for the kind words. I think people see criticism and tend to forget that it comes from a place of caring a great deal about what we're making. While I don't 100% agree with your interpretation, its obvious that you have put a lot of thought into it and what we're writing and what people have written before us. I think there are a lot of nuances in character and motivation that have yet to be revealed or really explored in HS:BC, so I can understand why this might seem wrong. We Are Trying Something With This, for sure. One of the beautiful things about media is how it can be so differently interpreted by individuals so I can't (and would never) fault you for coming to your own conclusion. Also, I genuinely appreciate you voicing your opinion and concern. Honestly I wish more people would do so even half as eloquently and thoughtfully as you have. Things like this really make me think about why I'm doing what I'm doing. All that being said, if you're not vibing with what we're doing that's ok. I hope something we do down the line gets ya back! Its impossible to promise that everything we do will sit well with everyone. While I'd be sad to see you go, I'm glad you stayed as long as you did. - James

More specifically, how Rose understands the reason behind continuing sburb and the necessary evils of it, but the leaving Kanaya bit being the only part of Rose that was lied to by Dirk

Thank you for re-iterating Rose's intentions here. I see some people criticize this update for not changing Roses character out of nowhere, which I understand the frustration behind her outcome of being here in the story, but ya can't just say "oops nevermind haha I lied".

Between this update and the recent show of the overgrown "home" I'm prepared for some premium post-modern navelgazing (positive). This is basically the core of why this is interesting and emotionally relevant, love to see that sort of play in these concepts.

Well, I hate to say this. I've been following HS2 very closely since this iteration of the project began. I had enormous enthusiasm for what you were doing, and to some degree I still do. Your passion and love for the comic and the characters are obvious, the effort you're putting in is really clear, the art team is knocking it out of the park, and your attitude of communication and positivity is a breath of fresh air compared to the previous team. That said, I really don't understand where you're getting most of this, writing-wise. I've been feeling like this increasingly over the past few updates and author commentaries, that I don't understand how you've gotten this interpretation of things out of the text of the Epilogues. If your approach to the story is genuinely going to be that Rose isn't meaningfully being manipulated and is basically in her right mind, and that she and Ult-Dirk were actually right about all these bizarre new rules of 'canon' that he claims are now relevant to the setting, and that this whole endeavor of his actually was necessary, I don't think we read the same story, and I can't seriously follow you on this one. I won't stop reading the story, because, as I said, your passion and talent is obvious (no one can deny the quality of HS2's updates from an execution point of view), and I genuinely am interested in how you approach some parts of the story that I'd never been able to get my head around, like the future of Candy and what a new Sburb session would actually look like. But I can't keep taking it seriously as a continuation of the Epilogues when you seem to be diverging so much from the text of the story that you're writing a direct sequel to. Maybe I'll be wrong about this in the fullness of time and when one day in the distant future I see the whole story I'll get what you were going for, and if that ends up being the case I'll happily eat my crow. But for now, I'm probably going to be canceling my pledge at some point this month.
