Nickname Vepr - literal Wild Boar, but in the English version of the novel that I found, the transliteration is left without translation.

Yes. I looked at this translation (1977), it seems that all the other nicknames were translated correctly (except for the Strannik this is also left transliterated (literally Wanderer))

Interesting. The English translation should be "Boar" and no Vepr IMO. Polish translation of Inhabited Island for example has "Dzik" which is the literal translation of Vepr.
