You are allowed to take a break. Perhaps pick up a short relaxing game in between the next SH part to get back in the mood again.

It did draw inspiration from those! I find it personally incredibly interesting and effective as a horror movie just because the more nightmarish scenes could just as well be taken straight out of my own nightmares I had when I was in a medically induced coma in the ICU for 2 weeks as a kid. Absolutely fascinating film, I get why it doesn't hit for everyone but for me it really does!

That film is a head trip! I remember it haunting me for a long time after watching it. I can see the influence on SH for sure. If I'm not mistaken, Jacob's Ladder drew inspiration from the work of Francis Bacon and Hieronymus Bosch. Definitely getting those vibes in SH2&3 as well. Very cool.

I think post SH3 is a pretty good spot to take a break from the series (and horror like you said). One can make an argument for SH4 and Shattered Memories (difficult to play since it does not have a PC release), the rest are not well regarded and are better off skipped.

Oh hell yeah! Last night I rewatched Jacob's Ladder, a movie that was a *huge* inspiration on Silent Hill in general but particularly 2 and 3, I'm curious if I'll notice more references to the movie now that I have it fresh in my memory haha
