On the whole you're doing great - definitely getting the Half Life Experience™. The rail section is rough and does go on forever. For the bunkers: explosives are your best friend. It's hard to see, but there is a gap behind the bunker where you can sometimes see/shoot the dude - or just chunk a grenade. Or if you're really careful, the rifle alt-fire! For ladders: aiming up/down with the mouse and only ever moving with W/forward - never S/backward - is the most reliable way to go. They're hellish either way though. I'm loving the playthrough!

Good times. Half Life is just brutal. Partly the twitchy speed of the game, partly the random death surprises and partly the ladders, lol. If I remember right they are easier to traverse if you look straight up or straight down and keep your crosshairs centered on the ladder. Use the mouse to steer rather than the strafe keys. Then just up arrow to go up and down arrow to go down. But I could be misremembering. Also you have a grenade launcher on your sub machine gun. (At least they modeled one on there so I assume you do) And it looks like you’ve got 10 grenades above your ammo counter but I don’t know what the alternative fire button is. Maybe right click? I assume that’s what they wanted you to use to kill the gunners in the bunkers.

Man the checkpointing is harsh :/ I do remember this part being quite difficult and the game in general does try to fuck you over haha. When I played it with friends, our catchphrase was “Thank you, Valve” for all the times the game surprised us with some bullshit. In other words, you’re not doing anything wrong, it’s just Half Life being an asshole (and we love him for it).

You asked for some advice, and I don't think your tactics are bad. I can't tell how you save since you edit them out. You should get comfortable with frequent quick save (F6) and quick load (F9). The mantra is ABS: Always Be Saving. The game was developed expecting you to save scum to victory. Any time you have a success or you're about to do a stunt: F6.
