If you like modern art, the Pompidou Center is very interesting and was not too crowded when we were there several summers ago. We loved Musée d'Orsay too (much more than Louvre) but look up when crowds are lowest. Much of charm of Eiffel Tower is at night so in addition to braving a visit during the day, scope out vantage points other places in the city and can avoid crowds that way too. The wandering Nicole described is perfect and not difficulty to avoid the Champs-Élysées and other very touristy areas. Arc de Triomphe is cool and less crowded after dark and Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre is the same.

The area around L’As du Falafel is great for walking and picking up good baguettes- I was in Paris last year during the Olympics and not too touristy!!
