Happy New Year from The Land!

I had an interesting experience this morning. I was driving back from my night shift, and there was a car stalled in the middle of the highway.
I swerved around it, but I happened to look back, and saw a woman slapping the steering wheel.
I couldn't keep driving so I pulled over.
A few minutes, later we were able to push the car off the highway, onto the shoulder, and I asked the woman if she wanted a ride to the gas station.
That was when I realized she drunk and/or high. To make matters worse, her beautiful seven year old daughter was in the back seat...
I won't go into what I thought in that particular moment, but a few moments later I realized that my decision to stop and help, and possibly the fact that her car had stopped, might not have all been coincidence.
Maybe I was driving by at that moment, at that early time of 5 am, and maybe the fact that her car stalled, was because I was meant to get this woman and her child to safety. Maybe this collection of events was the only way she and her child could safely make it to 2017.
At the end, we charged her phone, and I got her to the gas station. Her sister came along and drove them back to her house...
For most of the day, I have been really bothered by what I saw. A young child, full of promise and hope, and a mother who could barely speak straight.
I have been angry for a good part of the day, full of judgement and condemnation.
Well guys, it's taken a day, but I've let that go. I've realized that justified or not, my indignation does not help. Also there could very well be more to the story than I know.
What I have chosen to focus upon is that maybe, just maybe, the kindness I showed did make a difference. Maybe, just maybe, the life of that little girl will take a better turn in the future.
I don't know guys.
I just thought it might be meaningful that this random collection of events happened as the year is changing. Maybe it was just chance and coincidence, but maybe, just maybe, the things we do, and the places we end up have meaning. That's what I believe.
As we move into the New Year, please don't forget that each and every one of you are important.
Sorry if that got preachy :)
I promise there will be inappropriate jokes and shenanigans for the next 365 lol

We all have moments that we remember in our lives that others look at us in blank astonishment, not realizing their actions had such an impact. It could be that your moment of selfless giving reached that child deeply and stays with her and drives her to "be like him". Moments of giving are as deeply felt as moments of taking. You have given her an opportunity to experience the option to take a path she may have never known was available to her, prior to that moment. It hurts the soul when we encounter something and ache so badly to make it right. The hardest thing, in times like that, is to do what you can and then let it go. It never does feel like it was quite enough; but, it was what you could do. Most importantly - you did not just keep driving. Too many in this world do just that. Thank you, dear sir, for stopping. For taking the most important commodity any of us have (our time) and spending in on someone most would have found unworthy of their notice, much less their time.
