This was supposed to be a 1 hour sketch and it consumed the remainder of my work night, when I SHOULD have been working on other things. I am a bad professional artist. I'm not sorry.
On the plus side, this image ended up serving as good practice for this false watercolor style I want to get better at. Believe it or not, that is all digital, there's no traditional media used in this at all. I know, I know, that sounds stupid. Like why not just do it traditionally? Well, the answer is... time, and wear and tear on my hands. Even at 3 hours, this piece took about 1/3 the time it would've taken to actually do in watercolor. So. It's something I'd like to get better at.
I don't know what he's doing with his hand there. I may add more to this. Would holding a coffee cup be TOO 'Wannabe Anarcho-Socialist University Student'?
In case anyone out there somehow hasn't caught on, Grayson is Luther's foil. What with the whole 'privileged, educated rich bitch --> wanted criminal' path. Luther took a somewhat opposite trajectory. In fundamentals, although obviously not in personality, they agree in most regards. But if they were too similar, they'd make pretty boring best bros characters, so. I like it this way.

Yes.. Both Luther and Grayson came to the same points from opposite ends of the spectrum. Luther being criminal to Lord, and Grayson being 'Lord' to criminal. but the important bond between them is that they Care about both the ocean.. and the caliber of the person sailing on it.. they do not tolerate rampant cruelty and in their own way are honorable. Still looking forward to that story of Grayson drooped over the back of a rather peeved Luther. Being drunk does break down all sorts of inhibition's

Oh, yes. In case you couldn't already call this, the theft of the Manoratha did NOT in fact go smoothly. Grayson's transformation into a Privateer was a rocky one.
