EARLY ACCESS: Project Blueprint & the Horror of Eternal Life
🕑 Added 2024-09-24 02:01:41 +0000 UTCBryan Johnson is the failed tech mogul/perennial transvestigation target/literal Snake Oil salesman who is trying to live forever by surrendering his life to a mysterious algorithm. My efforts to understand him have led me into the worlds of shell corporations, techno-accelerationism, Japanese cinema, childrens' literature, and Mormon theology – and I've finally come out the other end, only slightly diminished. Older, but wiser.
The above link is not the final cut – it's missing about 25% of visual assets, one guest voiceover, a polished sound mix, and the citations/credits. But the most important parts are here, and frankly, I can't keep this to myself a minute longer, so here ya go.
Enjoy, my friends. I'll probably never do anything like this again.
"The space which I imagine beyond the horizon is still space, identical with that which I see. The time which flows without end is made up of moments identical with those which I have passed through. Extension, like duration, repeats itself indefinitely; if the portions which I touch have of themselves no sacred character, where did the others get theirs?"

I watched the final version last night and loved it. Thank you Lily! 🙏❤️ How long can a video be and still be considered a essay and not a documentary? Is there a difference? That was feature-film length and good to the end of the credits. 🎉

Fucked up lung solidarity 😔✊

loved this video! then caught the companion video on Nebula about his children's books. the thumbnail's reference to Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day scared me that it was going to reveal something terrible and horrible about that book or Judith Viorst, since it was my anthem when i was maybe 4-6 years old. very relieved to find it was only a setup for Bryan's awful books ;)

Great video! It's strange to remember that what most of these tech guys are selling is themselves, not a rational Idea. It's more important that they make investors like them than that they really are saying something. Good luck on the wedding!

First of all-Phenomenal video. Just so, so good. Hyped as hell for the final cut. Thankyou for making it. Also the black mould bit hits very close to home. "I literally can't breathe as well anymore because of conditions created by capitalism" is such a terrifying, visceral thing and it's wild that people don't seem to point that side of it out much at all. Sounds like I've had a much less severe case of it from the place I used to live in, but I'm a singer and since I lived there I've started running out of breath onstage all the time. Whenever it happens all I can think about is my landlord. Fucked-up-lung solidarity I guess!

Thanks!! We initially had a whole scene planned for after the phone call, but the shoot didn’t work out. The final version will have a kinda cool credits sequence that caps it off nicely
Lily Alexandre
thank you!! 😊

Just wanna say you’re an amazing video essayist - and thank you!

I’m waiting on one person to send me voiceover before the final export, that’s what that is :)

Thanks for catching that!

Love this video! Maybe you already noticed, but when describing your run up to the hospital on the mountain, you said the whole thing twice. Can't wait to see the ending.

Wow, this is incredible. Your work always gives me a sense of emotional expansiveness, making dense and widely disparate conceptual and practical connections, and I'm always excited for a new video of yours. I'm looking forward to watching this again when the final is available, I'm sure I will get different things out of it on second viewing!

Omg, thank you so much!! And thanks for the heads up - I totally just forgot to turn the volume up on that clip, I'll fix it for the final version.

Oh my god that was the best video you have ever made. Literally bravo! A quick note on the production, When bryan was listing his workout routine it was VERY hard to hear, do you think you could add subtitles to it?

Oh, and light spoilers for the movies After Life (1998) and Air Doll (2009). I think I've talked about both on here before? Both really great movies.
