wildfire update
🕑 Added 2025-01-09 16:17:28 +0000 UTCtwo days ago, i filmed the first half of the quaternary period episode. within hours that same day, the palisades fire completely erupted, and later that night, we saw the pasadena fire, which kind of placed us in between the two. the winds were crazy, we lost power by 7pm, and the next morning, the conditions hadn’t changed. we decided to leave the area with the cats, just in case of evacuations later in the day that would have the city totally gridlocked (which turned out to be the right move). we are safe and away from the fires! last night, a couple new fires started much closer to home, but seem to have been contained through the night.
the devastation is horrifying and it all feels like a dream. i don’t think i will be able to wrap my head around what has been lost for a long time.
i am supposed to be writing the rest of the episode throughout the rest of the week — highlighting the holocene extinctions and the state of our world now. i plan to end the video and the whole series on a positive note, and it feels really really strange doing so under these circumstances.
