This was a fascinating watch. despite being aware of the very tactics being used, you can see them work effectively on him. Their professional demeanor coupled with the strict straightforward factual questions left him in a position where he couldn't say much except the truth. He is well aware of this fact especially considering his background, but regardless, he cannot help but think he can navigate the investigation away from him. It's truly fascinating. A cop displaying the Dunning-Krueger effect regarding suicide scenes is really frightening. He well and truly believed that his plan was solid and the other cops would just take his word. He really never even considered that people would, well, care.

The US police won't hire anyone over a certain IQ, someone tried to sue them over it for discrimination after they were denied for that very reason. Yet the courts decided it was not discrimination and totally fine. You should look into the killing of Sandra Birchmore by a Stoughton, Massachusetts cop who knew her since she was a child in the young explorers. other officers abused her too. he killed her after finding out she was pregnant with his child and just got arrested in august

Suicide by ligature in this way (half-sitting) isn't that strange/uncommon actually. It takes only a few moments to pass out with no oxygen to the brain and after that the gravity finishes the job. It IS incredibly weird to do it on the side of the road though, I've never heard of a case like this in my life.
