Everything I enjoy about HG101 -- INCLUDING the cultural explorations that go far beyond video games, and which make the actual VG discussion that much sweeter. Holy Diver is a very special album for me. It's a relic from an age when the creators of our pop culture were (at least in some small measure) immune to the corrosive effects of cringe culture. And Dio himself is like the wizard prince of ANTI-CRINGE; his stuff is all just so theatrically absurd, with its tryhard badassery and overdone Halloween symbolism, and yet you can't help being swept up in the epic grandeur of it. That's a kind of magic.
