I’m having trouble finding Fortune Found. It’s the only Interlude I haven’t listened to so far.

I always assumed that Crowned Panther had some idea about the imminent destruction of the forest and was planning to leave, is that incorrect? If he wasn't going to leave, Did he transport the mushroom spirits to the spirit world, saving them? (that would make Aiden Crutcher's sacrilege ultimately a positive thing, kinda)

Ok since the South Pole is always hot, and when the WWW crew visit the North Pole and it's dark and cold when in Toma it's canonically described as summer, does this mean that the axis of the planet of Umora basically points its southern pole towards the sun? The rifle sounded quite interesting, especially because it seems fairly short range to me. So if we remember that the WWI era conventional rifles like the M1903 Springfield have an effective range of 100–300 yd, I wonder how that would impact the world? Like, you could have a faction shut out of the magic but that creatively made use of the older tech to still be interesting. Sort of the Zamburak and tachanka group

My grandfather also passed an eye exam by memorizing the answers when trying to enlist in WWII! He shouldn't have been eligible to be a paratrooper because he was red/green colorblind, but he figured it out 🫡 Thank you for sharing his story with us, Erika!

After listening to this podcast, I realized I never finished the episode The Clearing because every time Aden Crusher started to dig the moss out of his foot I would cringe😳😂. But I pushed through today and finished the episode. Wow, a good adventure story with extreme detail on the goriness. Anyone else think that Fortune Found wasn’t supposed to be set in the past, but in the moment of recording, Brennan thought of a way to make Okie losing his legs into a lucky occurrence (getting out of the draft) and forgot that the Empire isn’t supposed to be there? So he did some timeline cleanup after Aabria’s question? 😂

No joke, I was listening to this episode and wondering how Brennan handles developing the geography of a setting so rapidly when there are so many factors to calculate to determine what biomes exist in an area (tectonic plate movements, weather patterns, tidal forces, seasons, etc, etc.) and then he busts out "tidally locked south pole" and I had my answer

Gotta love when a Fireside raises so many more questions than it answers. What do you mean The (pre-Free) Roads are on the opposite side of the world from Indri's keep? How does a planet have to be tilted in relation to its sun for the south pole to be an hot desert and not a polar desert? Is Umora even on a planet. It has to be if there's a space campaign, right? I truly love the idea that all these interludes have a narrative job, and that Twelve Brooks continues to haunt and hurt our feelings. The idea of spirit taxidermy will be floating around my head now.

South pole hot not the craziest piece of world building! More dramatic axial tilt than earth! Means that Umora lies more on its side. Perhaps it was struck by a large meteor (as one theory for Uranus's tilt goes) OR maybe Umora is a world of myth and story and it happens to be lying down to sleep as those stories are being told unto and onto it.

Whoa no way, that rules! The 442nd are legends. That's the same regiment later-to-be Senator Daniel Inouye was a part of, where he got that famous Medal of Honor story about storming a German bunker and pulling a grenade from his own severed hand. Fighting fascists runs in the family I guess.
